I live in Australia, do I have to take pay pal ? or can I ask for bank deposit or Money order only?

I live in Australia, do I have to take pay pal ? or can I ask for bank deposit or Money order only?

I noticed another seller doing it, so in theory I should be able to do it as well?

I just wanted to confirm.

Thanks

Yes, apparently so, and other ebay member also agree's.

Apparently laws in Australia have changed, just that no one has been told.

Maybe we should all start doing it. Why pay all the extra pay pal fee's if we do not HAVE to?

P.S this is the first time I have done this, so please exuse the mistake in making a second thread.

Sorry

All sellers listing on eBay AU must offer a safe payment method to all buyers.

If a payment method is listed, it is a breach of policy to refuse it, directly or by setting up account preferences to prevent payment by that method.

If a seller has PayPal as a payment method on their listing, they can not restrict its use in any way - they can't add surcharges and they can't even say stuff like "no eCheques", and they can not try to rescind it as a payment method for Australian buyers. You are not even supposed to offer incentives for using alternative payment methods (eg discounts for bank deposit), the most you can do is say a payment method is preferred.

eBay CS rarely know what they are talking about, but I'm surprised they could get something like that wrong.

What laws, specifically?

That you do not have to accept paypal as a payment option. You can demand bank deposit only and get away with it.

That's not a law, that's an eBay policy, and eBay are legally obliged to give advanced notice of policy changes.

Edited to add a correction - it's not actually even an eBay policy, as such. Because no one has to offer PayPal, they just have to offer a safe payment method (PayPal, Paymate, or credit card).

I agree with your answer, and I am so frustrated with ebay for letting this happen. The seller is still getting away with it. I rang ebay,  and as you said they do not know what they are talking about.

Some thing has gone terrible wrong then.
