This is a note next to an item.....
This unpaid item case expired on 02 Feb, 2013. You will not receive a final value fee credit.
What am I doing wrong?

Most likely leaving it too long before manually closing it. If they haven't responded, you can close it after 4 days from when the case was opened and then receive your FVF credit.

I clicked on some automatic resolution option, but didn't realize this was happening until now. I have 3 unpaid items which I have now paid for? Scam?

As soul said, you open the unpaid case at day 4 if you wish, then exactly 4 days later you go in and close the case - buyer has not paid. This will get your FVF back and buyer will receive a strike. Paypal do not close the case for you as the buyer may have paid by another means and they would have no way of knowing that. Paypal will close on your behalf if the buyer pays via paypal before you close the case.

Sounds as if you clicked on the wrong option to close or sent a mutual cancellation request instead of opening an unpaid item dispute.

Hi OP,
it doesn't matter at all if tyou don't close the dispute as soon as possible, after 4 days.
If you did nothing it'll sit there for next 60days, and when you do eventually click on Close the dispute you will receive FVF
If that didn't happen - you either clicked on a wrong thing, or there was a glitch, no matter, ring Ebay and they will manually enter the payments for FVF on the spot.
Cheers

With respect JHS - it is best to close the case ASAP - the seller can not relist until the transaction is finalised. And it is beyond me as to why any seller would want to wait longer than necessary.

Not so, I'm afraid. If you don't close the case manually, eBay closes it automatically on the 37th day and the FVF is not refunded.
