I would like to sell some items and just would like to know whats the best way to photograph them and put them on a white background like all the ads on ebay

How big are the items? You could lay them on a sheet or tablecloth or piece of cardboard. If the items are small you can use a light box cube, you'll find heaps of them for sale on eBay.

We use a piece of white corflute for the surface and another piece standing up at the back. The corflute cost about $8 at Bunnings.
