International shipping delays in general and Canada Post strike

Anyone else having fun with being hit by items sent to overseas not received, only for the items to arrive 5 to 6 weeks after being sent?  I've had three of these pop up in the past two weeks (Scotland, Britain and the US), and just when I was about to refund them the items turned up and saved me.

Then I got told by a friend in Canada that their postal system is running real slow and they are going to go on a 3-week strike from new year.

Re: International shipping delays in general and Canada Post strike

I had someone in the USA contact me after about 6 weeks, but the item was untracked so I had to refund. I don't generally have any problems overseas, but I use the 11 to 35 business days shipping option. I wish ebay would allow us to set our own shipping timetables instead of basically dictating when stuff has to arrive.

Canada is notoriously slow. Add 3 weeks and selling there is fraught.

Re: International shipping delays in general and Canada Post strike

we've had a similar issue re; delayed o/s postage.. and dont you just love how Ebay allows buyers to slug you with neg feedback in the stars section regarding postage?? and we get pulled up by E-Bay for delivering items slowly.. Sellers have ZERO to do with delivery after we place items (usually same day or next business day) into the postal system..How can it be the sellers fault if the actual postal system fails... nah sorry... but E-Bay is and always will be, a rigged system that is anti-seller...

Re: International shipping delays in general and Canada Post strike

So a buyer has purchased items for me to send to Canada and ebay in Australia is still not allowing us to send items to Canada via their postage service offerings even through the strike ended today. When I spoke to customer service they just said to cancel the order and refund the buyer and relist the item. Has anyone else got this type of response. Extremely poor outcome for the buyer and myself.

Extremely poor timing. This thread is FIVE years old.

I wouldn't sell overseas, and if I did, never to Canada. Canada Post ( or whatever they call themselves) is barely a fourth world service.

You are obviously trying to use eBay postage. Generally not an economical option. If you are using AP to send, purchase postage from AP.

Cancel the sale - problem with buyer's address.

Never sell to Canada - I think they deliver by moose.

An item not received just waiting to happen IMO

Re: International shipping delays in general and Canada Post strike

My information had the strike ending on December 17th - not January 2nd

As of December 18th, eBay allowed Canadian buyers to purchase again, despite Australia Post not resuming their service as yet. The only way for mail to get through at the moment is via courier.

For a DVD, it only costs around AUD$25 - $30 more to ship with DHL. Some buyers are ok with paying the extra, but others are happy to wait until Australia Post resumes services.

If I had a buyer who was not happy with one of those 2 options, I'd cancel the transaction using the reason "problem with buyer's address".
