There is another thread about this problem and some state it is error 70049.
If you google "error 70049 paypal" you will get about 60,000 results but near the top of the list is the offical Paypal list of errors and error messages.

Given that most of the East coast is flooded, I'm not surprised there are issues.

Dave this is an issue which has affected Paypal worldwide not only with ebay sales but also with websites.
Mum5089 - at times like this I find it best to be proactive with the buyers and advise them of the situation.
For the one you have received 5 echeque payments for I would email the buyer and explain there has been a glitch and I would then cancel all of those payments and ask the buyer to repay. If you don't there is a possibility that 5 payments will come out of their bank account and it may even cause the account to overdraw which means they could possibly be charged fees for an overdrawn bank account.
At times like this keeping customers informed can be very helpful.

Jen, just keeping my seller informed....I will ring you tomorrow to pay for my order. Paypal appears normal now, but I am not taking any chances.:-D

Rats. PayPal is working again and I've definitely paid for something twice. Hopefully the seller will refund one of the payments soon.

Has any seller who has had contact with PayPal and received multiple funds for one item been advised what to do?
I had a buyer make payment *7 times* and I don't want to sit on his funds, but at the same time I am wary that even if I refund all his money, PayPal may still reverse all of these dodgy transactions anyway and leave me $1500 in the negative.
I don't have time to be on hold to PayPal all day in my regular office job so keeping this thread updated would be great!

I have just spoken to them and they told me that I need to refund any over payments.
Having said that, I still dont fully trust them not to go through and refund them again, but I only have one transaction that needs sorting, so if it goes pear shaped it shouldnt be too much hassle to fix up...again.
My drama was the fact that i withdrew all my funds before I realised they were duplicating payments, so I dont have enough money there to refund all thats owing to my buyer.
The other interesting thing i've noted is that the transaction is now showing as refunded on ebay, just wondering how that affects things like feedback and buyer protection?

yes you will need to refund all the payments that have been made more than once, BUT then the items will not show up in ebay as paid something to do with an update from PayPal yesterday.

eBay/PayPal should provide official instructions on their front page regarding how to respond to the over-payments rather than forcing you to contact them and wait on hold endlessly. It just causes confusion and erodes our trust in the service. Totally unacceptable for a mega-corporation.

I've checked my account this morning, and my January transactions are showing there. Luckily for me I didn't have any transactions go through last night. but... what a mess, I quite understand Punch's concerns re: refunding the multiple transactions. How CAN you be sure that if you put the refunds through, that Paypal won't also decided to refund them?
