Hi there,
Just wondering what your thoughts were on a "Mark Received" function so that sellers have some idea if a customer has ...... well received an item, I know your going to say well they simply leave feedback so that is proof of item being received. Not in all cases, I have a few buyers that haven't left feedback and I would really like to know that they have received the item at least so that I don't have an issue in the future with coming to me months down the track and say they are still waiting for their item.
Anyway my thoughts are that Ebay could make it a compulsory action to be taken by the buyer and if they do not mark as received within say 2 months then they receive a reminder email to do so.
The reason I say make it compulsory is because if not it would just be like feedback and the seller would be left hanging.

Seriously I wish all buyers would do this , ahhh for a perfect world :-x
I have been buying on ebay since 2001, everytime when I receive item/s as soon as I leave feedback I also email the seller to let them know I received the item and that everything is okay or not.
9 times out of 10 the seller will email me back saying they appreciate my letting them know everything is fine.
I have always thought it was courtesy to do so.

When I first started buying on ebay it wasnt what it is today. A lot of items had to be bought from USA, as here in Aust. there wasnt much, so because of buying from the USA and because the USA is so far away, I thought it was best to let the seller know that item had arrived.
Now, it is just something that I automatically do and now I rarely by from the USA.
I honestly believe, it is good to let the seller know that you have the item and all is well.

Unless I hear otherwise, I assume all my buyers have received their purchases and are happy. Less and less buyers are leaving feedback and I am finding customers harder to contact via ebay messages because lots of buyers are just not online all the time. To be honest, I think the "please be a good ebayer and leave feedback for your seller" is an imposition enough, I dont want my sellers getting a "please let us know if you've received your item" email as well.
Most buyers just arent that invested in the purchase, they click buy, they pay, they get their item. That is enough for most people.

Now if you were suggesting they did away with buyer feedback altogether and replace it with an item received button then I would think it was a very good idea.

You do, of course, realise what makes a perfect world for one, would be a nightmare for someone else, though? ๐
Someone selling 100's of items a day would most likely dread opening up their inbox each day. (Not suggesting people stop sending such messages, nor am I saying I don't appreciate them when I get them, because I do, but perfection is in the eye of the beholder ๐ ).

I tend to leave feedback with a thank you.Sometime a message when I can and were I feel it's deserved as well.I tend to waiver a little on feedback if things may not quite be as described but may have been easy to miss the defect and/or it could have happened during postage. If it's a unique item which I want I keep (can't be replaced) it's just not quite the positive experience it could have been.If I receive a parcel for which I have paid $50 postage and the postage cost is $15 (in a bag) I may not leave feedback.
I will message if their is a problem.I will message before bidding to clarify anything that I have questions about.
Unfortunately not all sellers are fantastic in their customer service.Expecting an obligation that buyers serve a seller ,other than paying and communicating problems is unrealistic (I am thinking of this from a sellers point of view).
Save yourself the stress and don't expect it.If you get it well and good.If not don't let it upset you and don't judge buyers as rude or bad mannered on that basis...or on the basis that some don't.
Also it is worth remembering that not all people have access to or use a PC all of the time..They may only come on (access a PC) to bid and pay for something they need.If there is a problem no doubt they will let a seller know.If all is good that need to get to and use a PC isn't there. It doesn't mean that they aren't happy or thankful or anything else. The seller has the money, the buyer has their item .It's all good ๐

I imagine there are plenty of buyers who pop onto Ebay, purchase an item and then get on with their lives. There are very few online sites that expect the purchaser to contact the business and let them know the item has been received.
As a seller, if I haven't been contacted by a buyer in a couple of weeks I assume all is well ...

I get between 200 to 300 emails a day so i know what your talking about.

No I don't answer them all, while I do answer as many as I can I have 2 lovely ladies that help me with that and not all need replies.
