Money hold without posting tracking

"from 7 February 2022, if sellers upload valid tracking for less than 95% of their trackable orders, their payments will be placed on hold. "

How dare they hold people's own money. But I expected no less from managed payments. What else..... maybe charging fees for late posting or not answering buyer's messages? Why not, lets do that too, it'll be fun

Forgive me as I am only a buyer, but when you say the money is placed on hold, wouldn't that only be for a limited time?

I know a lot of things are sent untracked and I can understand a seller might occasionally miss or skip uploading tracking details even if they have them, but if the money hold is only for a couple of weeks or whatever, is it really a major deal?

Also, you mention the pickup of tracking as a concern, but it has never been my experience that tracking does not upload or update. I've had 5000+ transactions and this has never been an issue.

One area where tracking is rarely updated is express post packages. While I havnt checked recently, Australia Post actually had a disclaimer on its website ( pre Covid ) stating that it was common for express post parcels to only show minimal scanning with a lodgement scan, if lodged over the counter and a delivery scan. If express post parcels where mailed in post boxes, it was common to only see a delivery scan.

My experience with express post was that while the parcel may sometimes be scanned at a central mail sorting facility it was pretty common to only see a lodgement and delivery scan. Over the last couple of years more parcels are being sorted by automated parcel centers and this will help to address the problem with scanning mid system, but it certainly isnt a given, particularly for the vast bulk of parcels that are not mailed on the Eastern seaboard where the majority of automated parcel centers are located.

Just another example of where one sellers experience does not automatically translate to every other seller on ebay.

Yes I agree my postings are a mix of Tracked and Untracked letters.  If the tracked letter is handed over the P.O. counter and scanned, tracking shows as accepted  and the date.  If just dropped in a street box, only if it's processed via automated mail processing equipment does it show "In Transit", otherwise the first tracking event is when its delivered.  This assumes that its scanned by the postie, which is not an absolute given.

@chameleon - Have you selected an untracked, or tracked postage service as your default?

I know that Ebay have already been making a fuss about tracking if you've selected a tracking service,  but not uploaded any number. Regardless, I'm wondering if lack of tracking is going to start affecting seller performance standards, leading to possible lower search rankings.

I just checked a couple of listings and they where Standard Parcel Delivery. ( so should be tracked I assume ) My listings are mainly one offs and I dont usually muck around changing postal service for each listing. Gets back to the KISS principle thing. ( Keep it simple stupid ) It is very easy to spend a lot of time doing a whole lot of unnecessary stuff and while each little thing may not seem significant when all of the add ons are factored into the selling process, the combined effect is to dramatically slow things down, resulting in poor $$$ returns per hour for sellers. This may not be important for many who sell on ebay for fun or as a bit of extra cash, but if it is a major source of income, the process needs to be quick and efficient. Different sellers and buyers have different motives and they simply need to adjust their processes within ebay guidelines to suit.

I get that some types of buyers love tracking and follow their parcel through the system with great anticipation, but at the end of the day, it doesnt arrive a minute earlier, just because its tracked, so other than giving buyers something to check, it normally doesnt achieve anything. The exception is if a parcel is late or doesnt arrive at all, at which point tracking can be very useful. I have an extended handling time of five days, but mail more often than this, so most of my parcels arrive early. I keep mail reciepts in order of date in a small photograph album, one reciept per sleeve, folded so the date is at the front ( works a treat ) and can easily find tracking numbers if required..

As for lowering sellers items in searches if they dont jump through ebay hoops, this is a regular refrain that we have heard numerous times before, but it rarely seems to make much difference for one off, niche,  rare items. My sales currently are about as good as it gets for me. Any more and I would struggle to handle everything so not looking to increase sales.

You seem to consider that you shouldn't provide adequate information to your mug buyers. If you use Mypost Business you don't even have to spend the $0.05 of your time uploading tracking.

I manage my sales. I even upload tracking. I provide a personal service, rather than an automated one, and come 22 February I won't be affected. Because I'm not lazy or think that eBay policies don't apply to me.

You might be speshul, but I doubt you are special.

Sadly I have found that a lot of online sellers have forgotten or don't care about customer service.  A simple thing like uploading tracking information just adds to a positive experience.
