Need advice about buyer

I sold a Futon Lounge this morning, I live in Melbourne and the item was pickup and COD.

The buyer lives in Northern NSW. When the auction finished he sent me an email saying that he bought the item, lives in Nth. NSW and he comes to Melbourne once every 2 to 3 weeks, will pick it up then and pay for it then.

My thoughts on this is he should have asked first was it alright to do this, but he waited till he bought it.

I just have a funny feeling about this, I sent an email to him asking for an approx date he would pick it up, but he hasnt answered.

OH is anxious to have it removed, what should I do, wait for him to come to Melbourne next or what?

Re: Need advice about buyer

Huh. If it were me I would ask him to make ayment for the item, in which case you are then happy to store it for the 3 weeks maximum.

If you don't get an answer or he doesn't pay, then on day 4 open an unpaid item dispute and follow through with it.

Re: Need advice about buyer

I had a similar situation with a buyer but they did ask first. I sold some clothes hangers which are a pick up item and they line in NSW ( am in Melb). They said was it ok to purchase and pay then pick up when they come down early October.

Now I don't mind doing this because they paid first. As long as they pay now and you can tell them you will hold it for max of 3-4 weeks. If they do not pick up or contact you you can then refund and re-list.

Give them time to truly to you as they only just purchased this morning and they might have gone out for the day.

COD = Cash On Delivery

You are lucky they did not ask you to deliver 🙂

Otherwise, yes I would do as above; ask for payment now and stipulate a date by which it has to be removed.

Re: Need advice about buyer

I live in country Victoria and often buy pickup items from Sydney and Melbourne (pick up during school holidays).  I always message the sellers first and give them a range of dates that I will be in their city so they can okay a pickup during my stay at a time that suits them.  Some sellers want things 'gone' quickly and I don't end up bidding or buying.

Your item ended this morning and the buyer emailled you.  I wouldn't read anything into the fact that he hasn't answered yet.  After all, it hasn't even been a day yet.

Also, don't offer COD on your listings as COD is a service offered by Australia Post.  COD means you post the item to the buyer without having received payment and the buyer pays Australia Post when they collect it from Australia Post.  You pay a fee to Australia Post for this service, and Australia Post send you a money order for the payment.  You need to choose Cash On Pickup instead.

Re: Need advice about buyer

Think you should remove COD as a payment option-you have it on all your listings. If you mean pay on pickup, you need to use the drop down box in payment options & scroll further down.

Re: Need advice about buyer

Just took a look at your listing.  You have said in your descritpion that the item is pickup only and payment in cash on pickup.  That is good.  I would also start adding "Pickup is to be completed within 7 days of auction end unless alternate timeframe is agreed to BEFORE auction conclusion".  This will prevent a repeat situation.

In your payment advice you have "Contact within 2 days of auction ending, payment within 5 days of auction ending" and your buyer has fulfilled the first part of this.  I would not be emailling or messaging them again until 4 days from the auction end.  Even then it would only be to remind them that payment is due by day 5 and also press them for a firm pickup date.
