Need some guidance on listings & buyers

Hi there,

I'll try to explain this as best as I can; I know this may appear to be a "petty" issue, but I just need some experienced sellers to help me out please!!!

This question has a couple of parts to it.

I've recently started selling on eBay and I noticed other ads asking for cash on pickup/delivery, so I put a similar request in my listings.  However, since eBay doesn't allow me to remove PayPal as a payment option, buyers can still pay by PayPal if they want.

I'm trying to give buyers the benefit of the doubt and hope that they didn't see that request... but it's happened a few times now and it is somewhat frustrating.  I'm not trying to be tight with money, but to some degree I need to be because I also get an additional PayPal fee on top of the usual Final Value Fee from eBay.
Is there any way, and if so how, to tell the buyer nicely but firmly that they were asked to pay in cash?
Or alternatively, could I perhaps refund the money and then request cash only again before it's picked up?

Also, if a buyer doesn't respond within the time I request, do I just send them another message or is there something else I can do if they put communication off for days?

I hope somebody was able to understand what my issue is and help me ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks

Okay thanks but when you wrote that I had actually removed that line from my listing because I did read that it is not allowed.  As I said, I am new to this and I saw that in another person's ad so I didn't think it was too bad until I read it is not allowed.

Also, I know that is why the option is added- but my question was mainly about how to discourage the buyer from paying that way if it is cash on pickup or delivery?

I'm sorry if my question wasn't clear!

The best way is to advise the buyer that they have no buyer protection on pick up items and its best to pay cash after inspecting the goods and you are happy to refund their apypal payment so they can inspect prior to paying

Thankyou for your help the_hawk* , I sent them a message tell them that and to ask them to organise a suitable time together.
This person has told me that they have organised "someone" to come and pick the item up and told me the day that they're coming.  They also are wanting me to be home on that specific day during a huge time frame without speaking to me about it- I'm really being polite in the messages etc and understand maybe they're busy.

If they have arranged someone..whether it be a courier or a friend or anyone (I have no idea who he is sending), does the buyer still not have any protection?  And then if something did go wrong once the item left my property, does that mean I am not liable or is it my responsibility?

Thanks everyone for your quick responses, I am learning slowly ๐Ÿ™‚

paypal user agreement section i point V1

your purchase is not for:

vehicles (including cars, motorcycles, caravans, boats and planes);real estate;custom made items;industrial machinery used in manufacturing; oritems prohibited under our Acceptable Use Policy or by eBay's "Prohibited and Restricted Items and Services" policy (which will prevail in the event of any inconsistency with this policy);items which you collect in person, or arrange to be collected on your behalf;

You may still have issues if its a high $$ value item and the buyer pays with a fake or stolen credit card, beware it could be a rip off, and doulde check the funds are actually in your paypal account and dont use links in emails to log in.

Tell the buyer the person who is collecting the item will need to bring a copy of the buyers copy of the auction and will need ID before you will hand the item over.

As for them telling when they will pickup is up to you if you accept that and you have nothing better to do than wait around all day.

Pick up is normally done by mutual agreement and not being dictated to

I am surprised no one else has replied to you

good luck with it

Thank you so much! Your information has been extremely helpful and detailed so thanks for taking the time to answer.  I will ensure I do what you have suggested because you're right, I do need to be careful of this buyer.  The funds did go into my PayPal account though so hopefully that is a good thing!

It's very good for your buyer if they've funded the payment with a credit card and arrange a charge back. It's foolish to pay before they can inspect the item. There may be a problem if they demand a refund.

Just for the record

how long has your buyer been a member of ebay?

Have you checked their feed back and how many transactions have they done?

and if you dont mind what is the value of this item and what is it?

Too late for a listing that has ended but in future you can easily avoid the Paypal and pick up quandary,  I have posted this dozens of times lol.

When selecting the delivery method only select freight.

When selecting payment method select Paypal and cash on pick up.

If you do it like that and the buyer wants to use Paypal then they have to pay whatever you want to add to the invoice as a freight charge. If you get an on-line quote from Pack & Send for their fully trackable and insured service you are covered if they want to use Paypal but they are unlikely to want to pay the very expensive freight charge so will either come with the cash or not pay at all and you can give them a non payment strike and send a SCO or re list.

Hi it's okay no worries- the item came to $46.  Nothing huge!  They have about 5 feedbacks so not much - it's a jersey!
I always have buyers provide me with a number and I provide them with mine so we can make a quick arrangement (usually) buyers want that anyways because they want their item!

It's almost as though I have been playing tag with this buyer.. he has informed me that he has given my number to "someone who is picking the item up".  I don't mind communicating pick-up via message if it actually is effective, but this is as if the buyer is stalling for time.  I just wasn't fond of him giving my contact number to someone else who I do not know at all-
How would I know that he isn't the one turning up and claiming to be the "pickup man"?
I have told him that the item will be outside on the front verandah because he organised a day with his courier without talking to me about it first and expected me to be home then- like the_hawk* said, as if I am waiting for them.

I have tried to be home then but I can't change my normal everyday job arrangements for this.
I have been very nice to this buyer- but something is just fishy.
