Need some guidance on listings & buyers

Hi there,

I'll try to explain this as best as I can; I know this may appear to be a "petty" issue, but I just need some experienced sellers to help me out please!!!

This question has a couple of parts to it.

I've recently started selling on eBay and I noticed other ads asking for cash on pickup/delivery, so I put a similar request in my listings.  However, since eBay doesn't allow me to remove PayPal as a payment option, buyers can still pay by PayPal if they want.

I'm trying to give buyers the benefit of the doubt and hope that they didn't see that request... but it's happened a few times now and it is somewhat frustrating.  I'm not trying to be tight with money, but to some degree I need to be because I also get an additional PayPal fee on top of the usual Final Value Fee from eBay.
Is there any way, and if so how, to tell the buyer nicely but firmly that they were asked to pay in cash?
Or alternatively, could I perhaps refund the money and then request cash only again before it's picked up?

Also, if a buyer doesn't respond within the time I request, do I just send them another message or is there something else I can do if they put communication off for days?

I hope somebody was able to understand what my issue is and help me ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks

I make a point to be by my computer when "pick up only" item finishes, and as soon as it does I send off a nice message giving them my phone number, some idea when I am available for the item to be collected and end with; please pay cash on pick up after inspection.

Now, some people may want to use their CC, because they do not have the cash, and the way to do it is through PP.

Thanks for replying so quickly!
Sorry I didn't clearly explain one part- we always send our buyers a friendly message literally the minute that the auction has ended which gives them a contact number and we ask them in case they forgot, to please pay in cash.   The times when they have payed in PayPal, they haven't replied for a day or two and then I suppose they hop on eBay and see that they owe an amount and pay it without reading their messages.
I guess because I'm new to this whole thing, I didn't expect this to happen with the little amount of sales I've made- I would be understanding if they send a message taht takes 30 seconds to say is it ok to pay PayPal.

Thanks again for your help supernova ๐Ÿ™‚

You can not have this line is your description..

"otherwise you need to pay the PayPal service fee as well..."

That is against eBay policy. Buyers would have the right to report you to eBay for Listing Violation.

It IS the sellers responsibility to pay the PayPal fee.

Also, you must offer some form of secure payment method.

Hi Annella ๐Ÿ™‚

As others have said you can't charge your buyers the PP fee and a safe payment method must be offered.Cash on pick up for pick up items is the safest method of payment for both buyer and seller.

There are lots of threads on this topic that may give you the information you need and some ideas.I did a quick search of paypal  on pick up items

and found lots of informative threads.Members have given ideas on what they do themselves ,why and how they word things in their listings in regards to pick up items.

Having a read of some of that may be of help to you  ? ๐Ÿ™‚

ebay allows buyers 4 days to pay before you can open a non payer dispute

Maybe you could offer a small discount if they pay cash on pick up and state that in the listing.....you may find people will work with that better! Just an idea! ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay thanks but when you wrote that I had actually removed that line from my listing because I did read that it is not allowed.  As I said, I am new to this and I saw that in another person's ad so I didn't think it was too bad until I read it is not allowed.

Also, I know that is why the option is added- but my question was mainly about how to discourage the buyer from paying that way if it is cash on pickup or delivery?

I'm sorry if my question wasn't clear!

Sorry I meant to say I tried to revise my listing but now that I've gone back to have a look I see it is still there - I'll try again
