- To enable payments in their eBay accounts, sellers should expect to provide eBay with some additional payments-related data and transition to a new relationship with eBay that includes integrated payments capabilities.
- Sellers will be required to complete these steps in order to continue selling on eBay, and it is anticipated that this transition for sellers will occur no later than one year after the expiration of eBay’s Operating Agreement with PayPal, i.e., by July 2021.
This sounds like we won't be forced to accept payments through ebay's payments system until at least after their agreement with paypal ends in mid 2020. They've given themselves a year to do it and they'll probably need it to fix all the glitches!
It might limit our sales slightly if we can't offer other payment methods that people can access through ebay's system, but I think most would probably still use paypal. If ebay no longer allowed people to buy as a guest through paypal it might limit things but whether they do that will depend on their agreement with paypal.
It also says this:
Additionally, eBay and PayPal have aligned on terms to offer PayPal as a way to pay at checkout on the eBay intermediated model until July 2023.
I'd imagine that if lots of people were still using pp they'd continue to allow pp after that.
