I dont understand how we can leave neg feedback for nonpayers? It looks like as a seller, i can only leave positive feedback so how do we warn each other of non payers and if there's no way to leave negative non payer feedback, what is going to stop buyers from bidding-winning-not paying?? Help?

I would love for experienced posters not to drag up old threads to add nothing.

I guess we will both be disappointed.

Mods, PLEASE, stop this insanity of dragging up old threads. They don't need to be moved to different forums, they need to be LOCKED and left where they are. PLEASE, ENOUGH! ๐Ÿ™‚

Totally AGREE.  Or at least put the original publish date on the main screen so people can see how old a thread is.

Maybe Tippy there was only ONE mod that knew how to lock threads - and they've moved to better pastures.......................

Does anyone actually want to become a moderator on the eBay Australia forums? I can't believe humans are actually running the boards. The first thing to go will be the PG-rated words in the bleep filter. Fish don't deserve to be an analogue for excrement!

Agreed.

Surely there would be some easy way to make older threads read only? We probably don't need more than the first 2  or 3 pages of titles to be open.

I have suggested that mods select all threads on a board and lock them.  Then, they just unlock those that have had a post added in the last 12 months. Much quicker than locking old threads one by one.

I'll say what most regulars are thinking . . . . the mods are lazy, and/or stupid, and/or incompetent.

I am not sure why it would need to have humans doing it at all. There must be someone at ebay who could write a computer program where all posts that were over eg a year old, were automatically converted to read only.

They seem to have automatic everything else, including replies to people. Probably the boards are not a priority & I doubt the mods have the computer skills necessary to actually write such programs, that is most likely not their area.

Even if the mods can manually lock threads, they probably can't decide to institute it as a policy on their own to lock all old threads, I'm betting that would be way beyond their permissable actions.

They'd have to go higher up to be okayed for that sort of policy change.

I imagine they only have permission to delete/lock/move inappropriate posts or send warning messages. That's it.

michelle-oz who's an eBay rep and not a mod confirmed a while back that they were going to lock old threads - a few were locked, but then it all became too jolly hard for them........sigh.

It must be easier to move redundant threads (often with redundant information) from other boards so that they appear at the top of the board that they are assigned to.....and waste everyone's time.

padi, without divulging too much detail, I am going to break ranks and quote from a private discussion I was party to that included michelleoz prior to the board changes (yes sky, I was consulted by the eBay.au Community Manager prior to the finalisation of what were proposed changes to the boards).  I think enough time has passed since that discussion for me to be able to quote what amounts to just a teeny tiny portion of the whole discussion thread.  Also, I am only identifying michelleoz and myself while preserving the identity of others that were part of the discussion.

It relates to locking threads.  So it is following the line of discussion this thread has taken.  I would welcome mods to read this and confirm it with michelleoz if they want.  Here are the partial post quotes:

Michelle, I get that there will be structural changes to the way the boards will be presented and function, but following the posts made on this thread I would like some simple yes/no answers to the following please:

- Buying and Selling boards threads locked after 12 months? (but still searchable and readable) Y/N

Buying and Selling boards threads locked after 12 months? (but still searchable and readable) Yes - This will be a manual process though so I can't guarantee it'll be 12 months exactly but we'll do a review once a month perhaps and lock old threads.

Now, in defence of michelleoz, the board changes have a two-phase implementation.  Phase one is what we now have.  Phase two is the move to the USA style of board presentation.  It may be that the locking of threads will be part of the phase two roll out.

Also, the moving of threads by mods might be in preparation for phase two.  In the absence of anything official from michelleoz or lithium reps/mods we can only speculate.
