Payment dispute, Ebay expecting sellers to resolve.

Received a payment dispute yesterday, reason 'transaction not recognised'. Ebay is asking for supporting documentation. Mind you, there is no mention of what documentation is required. I understand Ebay wanting proof of delivery in item not received cases. However, payments are processed and managed solely by Ebay. Sellers play no part whatsoever in this process. So any payment disputes should be handled by Ebay. Asking sellers to do this is honestly absurd. Anyone else experienced this? And what kind of documentation did you provide? Surely proof of delivery won't do much in a transaction not recognised situation.

Re: Payment dispute, Ebay expecting sellers to resolve.

❝When a buyer opens a payment dispute because they didn't receive the item or they don't recognise the transaction

When a buyer opens a payment dispute because they didn't receive the item or they don't recognise the transaction, the seller will be asked to provide:

  • Evidence of successful delivery to the address provided by the buyer at checkout; or
  • Proof that the buyer collected the item

If eBay determines that the item was successfully delivered or collected:

  • We will not seek reimbursement from the seller for the disputed amount, even if the payment institution decides that the buyer is owed a refund; and
  • We will waive or refund the seller's dispute fee

Evidence of successful delivery

Tracking information from a carrier that shows all of the following:

  • A delivery status of "delivered" (or equivalent in the country to which the item was delivered);
  • The date of delivery;
  • The recipient's address that matches the one found on the Order details page, including the city/suburb or postcode (or international equivalent); and
  • For orders with a total cost (including postage and any applicable taxes) of $750 or more, proof that signature confirmation was purchased (uploaded as an image when challenging the dispute). Learn more about our signature confirmation requirements

As long as you sent with tracking and the tracking shows delivery, you will be covered.

If you sent untracked, you will lose the dispute and will have to refund plus pay the dispute fee.

You really need to read eBay’s seller pages. This is basic knowledge for sellers and you must be au fait with the policy pages to protect yourself.

Yes proof of delivery covers you in transaction not recognized related chargebacks, Enter the tracking and take a screenshot of the couriers website, if you don't have it I'd suggest refunding them.
