Petition to get "AUSTRALIA ONLY" more obviously located for buyers

Hi there,

I'm sure anyone reading this is probably a seller in Australia who is often dismayed that many Chinese and listings from abroad take up all the prime real estate in search results. This is fine with ebay being a 'global marketplace', but for many Australian buyers, the "AUSTRALIA ONLY" button to the left is not so obvious.

This petition is to get Australia Only put beside  All Listings Auction Buy It Now  at the top of any search page.

With the new rules about pictures with no words and frames, we are even worse placed to stress to our buyers that we are local and can deliver quality in days instead of weeks. If we are going to keep the Oz economy alive and not give in to dropshipping and posting from abroad, then this is a good step in the right direction in my opinion.

Please agree or comment below to show your support.

Thanks

I am completely frustrated with Ebay's lack of action on this.

Last week, I searched for "Australia Only" items and these were listed. I chose this option because I needed the item fast and wanted to pay express post.

Of course, two sellers stated that their items were located in Sydney which of course they were not despite charging me express postage I am yet to receive the items.

I have reported the items and the sellers but Ebay just does not give a damn. This is one of the many reasons so many people are leaving ebay. the buyers are going, the sellers are going. I dont want to buy Chinese knock off items nor do I want to wait for weeks to get an item

I am happy to sign the petition as I have had enough of this lack of support for Australia

Item location won't guarantee your item will get to you fast. I import from China and my guy gets it to my back deck 3 days after I place an order - big or small. I don't dropship but occassionally order a specific item for a buyer, but always have it sent to me first. I've had items come from Korea even faster.

I'm in Brisbane, and it can take 10 days for an item from WA to arrive here (not that I'm criticising Aust Post), but using item location in the hope that you'll get it faster is misguided, in my opinion. Also, considering the amount of manufacturing done in China and Asia, your remarks about knock-offs are ill-informed.

While-ever the only choices in location are "eBay Aust, Australia only and Worldwide" (you used to be able to choose distance from your postcode), you need to read the listing, check the feedback carefully and maybe contact the seller before hitting the "Buy" button.

Marina.

Agreed, I think the problem here is that people come to these forums to find refuge and reasoning for low sales and feel better about it (like I do all the time). We can make ourselves feel better and call international items "Knock offs" or "**bleep**" to make ourselves feel better but I think thats a poor mans way of doing business. Take padded envelopes for example. It cost so much here that the best I could find was 0.40cents a piece and their quality was OK. I looked up Chinese supplier for padded envelopes and it was only 1 cent for 10 pieces and not only that they even put your return address if you want to. Quality was quite good and the only thing I didnt like was that sometimes the adhesive would stick 2 envelopes together (I'm talking like 1 in every 200 envelopes).

To justify the 0.40cents for a piece of envelop with bubble wrap in it, by saying quality in Australian made envelopes is superior when the quality was exactly the same in the end.

Sometimes knowledge is a powerful weapon to use and I've done research on what sells and what doesn't. In fact, I've already made 6 figures in profits this year and I only just started selling seriously at the beginning of this year..

eBay is definitly a powerful tool to use, if you know how to use it right. I found that whinging about it simply does nothing and there are many ways to take advantage of our locality.

Also, I don't even being top ranked "IN AUSTRALIA" really improve sales that much at all. Its all about the default search engine settings that really counts.

My padded bags work out to be 7.8c each from an Australian seller......with 'free' postage.

Like everyone else I do not like recieving items from china ..When seller said they were in australia.

If I am not in a hurry then I do not mind going world wide. But if I select Australia only I expect to recieve item within 10 days .. Not 6 weeks again if I am not in a hurry then world wide is ok.. THE Misrepresentation of where the seller is based is what is annoying and do not get me started on no Taiwan vs CHINA seller information. All Hongkong ,Mainland CCP ,and Tiawan all show as China .. This is crazy

EIGHT YEARS!

That's how long since  the last reply was given.

Do your due diligence and click on the seller's feedback page.

It will tell you where they are registered, and no doubt where the item will be sent from.

Due dates are also an indication of location.

This is a perfect example of why posting on old threads (if the thread is, let's say, more than a year old) is not recommended.

It’s not because there is a secret committee here of grimly chuckling snuff-taking fuddy-duddies, manically clutching dormant threads to their madeira-soaked chests, dedicated to keeping those old threads untouched, unused, unposted-in.

No.

It's for these two main reasons:

    1. In many instances, the information in the thread is no longer relevant or correct. eBay policies change; what was true or valid may no longer be true or valid.

    1. The thread may have been specific to one particular enquiry; the enquiry may have involved quite a discussion. Posting in the thread years later revives a long-done-with discussion – to no purpose. It is best for people to start a new thread with their specific enquiry, so that responders do not find themselves having to scroll through a tortuous discussion that has nothing to do with the new enquiry.

To start a new thread, click onto New Message at the top of the thread links in this board. (It really should be renamed to something like "Start a new thread", I think!)

Hey, that's me.    😃

And it's called Start a Conversation.

I would've thought that was self-explanatory
