Postage Rate Tables and Australia Post

I have seen the recent changes to the Postage Rate Tables and thought it would be a great improvement, however it does not seem to be compatibe with the current Australia Post pricing structure.

AP pricing is a base rate of $22.85 for parcles over 5KG then a surcharge per kg ABOVE 5KG. How can this be setup within the new structure?

Example I have an item for sale that is 8kg and posting to postal region N2 will add $1.90 for each kg over 5kg. According to AP this should work out to be $28.55 ($22.85 + (3 x $1.90)).

If I put the $22.85 down as the 'Cost' and the $1.90 as the '+ per kg' I end up with $38.05

If I put $0 down as the 'Cost' and the $1.90 as the '+ per kg' I end up with $15.20

AP rates as of 1st July 2024: https://auspost.com.au/content/dam/auspost_corp/media/documents/post-guides/parcel-post-guide-ms102-...

Sorry, too hard for me.    I just use calculated postage and let ebay work it out.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Postage Rate Tables and Australia Post

Could it be related to cubic weight, as determined by the parcel dimensions.

Fine print from your link

Australia Post will assess charges according to their actual weight or cubic weight
equivalent, whichever is greater. The cubic weight is the parcelโ€™s volume in cubic
metres multiplied by 250. Australia Post reserves the right to apply cubic charges to
all parcels, and this will be more likely in instances where a parcel is large in size or
irregular or cylindrical in shape. Cubing is not applicable on eligible Australia Post
packaging products. For more information visit auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/siz

Re: Postage Rate Tables and Australia Post

Thats ok if you have smaller parcels to ship, if under 5kg the postage price is fixed Australia wide. The problem occurs when you have larger items. I have several items over 8kg and up to 20kg to ship.

Example if I have a 20kg parcel to post the cost ranges from $53 up to $170 per item depending on destination. I would love to use the calculated pricing if it actually reflected the ruels that Australia Post follow.

Re: Postage Rate Tables and Australia Post

No the new calculated options take into consideration whatever is greater (Physical weight vs cubic weight), the calculations are all correct and work with physical vs cubic, however the poblem arises as their is no consideration for the first 5kg being charged at $22.85 and only the additional kg's needing the extra surcharge.
