Even when a buyer has paid for the postage, eBay still charges me as the seller for postage labels. Why are they doing this? I have now changed all my listings to local pick-up only as I’m tired of being ripped off.

Yeah, I noticed that early hours of this morning when I posted. I was commenting on their sold items. Hopefully they can understand better how things work and relist their items without thinking they are being ripped off. Sometimes it can be hard to explain things properly on a computer screen.

Good choice I'd say
Until they get Managed Payments in order and read up on the selling basics

What do they do for free? Printing the labels?
OP - sorry you took down your listings. I hope you are just studying the rules (as suggested) and that you will be back as a seller soon.
You have good feedback as a seller, so you shouldn't give up. It really doesn't take long to learn the rules. 👍

Last time I took parcels to AP they paid me.
I have 7 ready to go from Ebay today, I reckon AP will hand over $50 or more,
Arctop_49 don't they pay you

Of course they do. Not only that - as they know that I don't have much time and that I have to go between classes, they even give me a free meal in the kitchen at the back of the post office.

Make sure you are signed up for managed payments or you'll never see your money.
If you feel that the ebay fees on item/postage etc are a bit much, you can always bump up the price of your items slightly to cover any fees.
If you really don't want to post, if all your items are going to be pick up, you may be better advertising on facebook marketplace. I don't know what you had listed but from what others have said, it sounds as if they may have been quality items. Marketplace has categories eg for antiques or collectibles.
I even know of one person who put up a couple of chairs for sale and by the end of the day, had had offers to buy at twice the price. Not that that happens for most items!
I think if items are small and can be posted though, you are probably going to get more potential buyers on ebay as not everyone likes to pick up and some people, even if they would love to, just live too far away. Good luck.
