I haven't even used up my 30 free listings for the month and ebay have decided to give me Power Seller status. The benefit to me: none. The benefit to ebay: I pay additional fees.
One more month of free listings and I would have completed my garage sale. For those of you who want to criticise me for whingeing about losing free listings just think first about the extra business you probably gain from us garage sale people making ebay a more interesting place for buyers.
To ebay, your fees are high enough and I think you can afford to continue giving casual sellers, like myself, the free listings because there are benefits to keeping us around. You did double your profits in the second quarter this year, it's not like you need the extra cash.
I'm not going to start a new ID just to sell a few more items, and I'm not going to sell any more because it just feels like another kick in the teeth from ebay where its all for the benefit of the buyer.

Of course I am a tight ass. If this was a business I would be wanting to maximise my profits. That's what ebay is doing. They have come up with a great marketing strategy to turn you into thinking that you are a successful seller and that it's OK to pay higher fees because I am good at this.

Then stop bitching and keep making money!

I should have worded that better. I don't mean that I am good at this, but that ebay want you or anyone they have given PS status to think they have achieved greatness.
100 sales and $3,000 income (less expenses) is a very low benchmark.

i am not sure because i never got ther but the old benchmark was 1500 a month for 3 months straight then $1000 sales per month.also you had to have 98 percent postive feedback.I am sure someone will correct me.also they were ruthless in taking away your power seller status if you did not reach the mark.
Where as i disagree with the original poster about fees etc as ebay is cheap to sell items.

ROFPMSL @ post 41 which will probably be removed unfortunately so not quoting it :^O:^O:^O:^O:^O

Owww I'm out of popcorn and cola back soon 😛
But for the OP by the looks of your feedback I would say you would make a great seller so why leave when you are making good money.. it just goes against the grain of logic to me.

100 sales and $3,000 income (less expenses) is a very low benchmark?
Gee, I've been busting my chops for the last 4 months trying to achieve this benchmark and now that I have I'm waiting for next month's assessment to get Powerseller status on my profile!!!
How do you do it? I'd like to know how you think it's such a low benchmark because I've got a pretty high IQ and still regard it as a very high benchmark 🙂
At least if you're not going to profit from your Powerseller status yourself, tell us your secrets so we can!!!
JJA (at least if we're going to quote abbreviations that need to be googled, lets make them hard ones to find)

I would hate to think what your net profits are once all your cost of sales and expenses have been accounted for.
Well I only sell for approx 24 weeks a year and my net profit is enough to pay for my airfare to and from the UK, my gadget buying habit and enough left over for treats and days out.
I sometimes go to garage sales, usually late in the day, and buy up things that have not sold for next to nothing. I then take them home and sell them on ebay for ten times what i paid for them so if you think you would be better off having a GS than paying some ebay fees could you please wait until I come back to Aus and have it at an address near to mine!

100 sales into 52 weeks say 2 sales a week. or 3000 a year divided by 52 weeks equals roughly 58 dollars a week in sales.
a hard ask? no .no secret involved sorry.
numbers game.the more higher priced items that people want times by amount of items .also looking after your customers.equals power seller.
Now to sell 1000 + dollars a month every month that was the old standard.that is a very hard ask.i am used to the old standard.i suppose thats why we have a differance of thoughts .

calsof - preparing a business plan is a good start. Business Plans for Dummies is a good reference.
I think from the start an assumption has been made that I reached the 100 sales and $3,000 mark while the free listing were available and I apologise for not picking up on that. Can I point out that its taken me almost a year, so clearly I am not exactly powering on and not deserving of any status so my free listing argument stands.
Koala & others - congratulations, you probably deserve the status because you have worked hard and your efforts have paid off and I think TRS is a lot more credible rating.
