Refund?

So I have sold an item on Ebay. I listed it as size 8 as that was the size I was told upon purchase. I am a size 7 and they were a bit too big for my liking. The buyer purchased about 20 something days ago and is asking to send back as they got the wrong size. I listed size 8 on my item and the buyer states that in the description there was an indication of Mens sizing so I cross checked the information. I accepted well below purchase price and am unsure of refund policy and what to do as the purchase was made quite a while ago, and It's been a certain number of days therfore I have withdrawn the money from paypal. What are the policies on refund as I stated information correctly and all?Screen Shot 2017-02-01 at 3.19.59 pm.pngand

The thing that intrigued me right at the start was that second sentence.

I wondered why on earth anyone had to be 'told' what size a boot was (men or women's).

Surely a person could read it on the boot?

Which made me wonder-was the size not showing/written on the boot?

When i got to the last posts, I see that someone else has picked up on the photos and noticed a size 5 written on the boots.

So it sounds as if the seller, a woman, was told these were the equivalent of a women's size 8.

I did notice the ad was in the men's category.

The boots should have been advertised with the actual size that they are labelled with, in my opinion. The seller could then have added that it was equivalent to a women's size 8 if she wished, but to advertise in the men's boots section with a size that is not a men's sizing and is not even the size written on the boot is plain stupidity!

I can tell you now if I bought I would be extremely annoyed, I would want my money and postage back and I would not expect to pay for return postage either.

No you did not. You got it completely wrong, you weren't clear at all, very misleading in fact.

Refund?

I totally agree. I didn't think to look at the sizing in the photos, I only looked at the description. Now that the detectives have revealed the true size (well done!), then the OP has no choice but to refund. If they are a size 5, then that's what should be listed. Size 5 Redback boots in the men's category. I'm generally a 7-7.5 shoe and I wear either size 5 or 5.5 Redbacks (I can't always get size 5 locally). Both sizes are a comfortable fit for my feet. If I was a size 8, I'd need a 5.5 or a 6.

I also have to question if they were worn just once for a short period. They are scuffed in several areas that are evident in both the second and last photos. They are also creased across the toes. Mine have taken several wears for the creasing to start. They are made from good quality leather, so it takes a bit to get crease lines across the toes. Mine are for every day use and when I'm not wearing my thongs, I'm wearing my Redbacks. I recently bought a new pair that have been worn multiple times for several hours at a time and the crease lines are only just starting to happen (which was caused from me crouching down outside and being on my toes, not flat footed).

OP, in the event that you come back to read the replies, you have to refund the buyer and pay for return postage. You'll be able to recoup that cost by relisting for a bit higher price. If you don't refund the buyer and they've opened a dispute, if they escalate it and ask eBay to step in and help, they will close the dispute in favour of the buyer, they will be told they don't need to return the boots. You not only lose the money, you lose the boots too. Plus, you get a defect against your account and there's a chance the buyer will leave you negative feedback. That will almost end your selling career being a new seller.

Tippy, you've brought up something I have also noticed in several ads (not that I noticed in this ad, I probably didn't look as closely as i could have as i never saw the size either).

That is, that some sellers seem to write 'worn only once' or something like that, when they look to have been worn numerous times.

I don't mind someone saying they have been worn lightly or that an item is still in excellent condition (if it is), but it is extremely annoying to receive shoes which are listed as worn once and find eg the soles well worn and pitted-which is what happened to me once and I wrote in the (positive)feedback that I would have preferred honesty.

As far as the boots in the ad go, I'd say a seller is safer to just list what size is actually written on a boot or shoe.  Less likely to get into trouble that way and avoiding headaches is the name of the game.
