Registered Post Labels (For Large Letters)

I just went to the local post office to buy some registered post labels in bulk for $135

I need them to register my items that are sent as large letters.

I just had an argument with the lady at the post office because she tried to sell me a box of signature on delivery labels instead.

I've checked Australia Post's website and it clearly shows that registered post is still available for letters.

Does anyone know if she was correct or was she just trying to upsell me.

I get the feeling the staff at Australia Post don't know what they are doing

Large letters can only be sent with registered post labels for signature on delivery.

Signature on Delivery is for parcels only.  So the person was trying to sell you the wrong product, not upsell.

Given the poor level of communication by AP to all regarding the changes, it is not surprising.

Best to arm yourself with a Australia Post post charges book 8/4/13, downloadable from their website or available in random post offices.

Some of them don't know what they're doing (your PO being one of them) but AP itself has put out a lot of contradictory statements and misinformationX-(  According to my PO registered post is still available for both small and large letters, and they do know what they're doing:-D

I told her they were the wrong labels but she refused to look for the correct ones

o well I guess ill just buy them online

Next time you are in the PO ask for the new charges booklet and refer them to page 11 Registered Post, which gives all the info.

I posted a parcel today with the last of the reg post labels I purchased years ago and was chatting to the woman behind the counter about the changes and she did say that although she wasn't telling me this if anyone actually asked for a roll of reg post labels they had to sell them.

I hardly ever used them hence them lasting so long so I declined, especially as I won't be using AP for six months.

Í've been chasing bulk (a box of) Signature on Delivery labels and didn't know they existed. I've been "using up" Registered Post labels on parcels because no one has been able to supply me with bulk SOD labels.

You can still use your Registered Post labels on letters and receive a signature and $100 insurance. Technically you're not allowed to use the Registered Post labels on any parcels anymore and you do you don't get the included $100 postage but there may be $50 included at AP's discretion which is not widely publicised. They have said you can still use these labels on parcels until you run out but I've just bought a new box!

The tricky tactic is that my regular PO is adamant that you can only send documents in a letter which I am yet to see proven in writing and until then I'll send whatever fits in a letter as a letter.

You can definitely send non documents in a letter - the AP postal calculator lets you insure letters for up to $5000. It would have to be a pretty expensive document to be worth $5000....

They may be confused with domestic express post envelopes and international express and registered letters, all of which are supposed to contain documents only...

International Registered Letters are Documents Only,

domestic Registered Letters are for anything that fits the size, and weight of the Large Letter Rate
