Reporting a listing that you suspect may be fraudulent

I have concerns about a listing that was placed on Ebay today

I followed the "Report Item" link which gives three drop downs but does NOT allow anywhere to give an explanation of what my concerns are.

The fact that the listing directs enquiries to a direct email address will probably get the listing closed, with a warning that that is against policy, but my real concerns are that the listing is a direct rip of this listing, which was sold by the Salvo's in Victoria in the last couple of days

While it may have been a mistake purchase and somebody is trying to unload their muistake quickly, today's listing doesn't even say what state of Australia the Tasmanian registered truck is in, which to me only rings more alarm bells.

Is there some way I can get the additional info to the right department at Ebay (or can somebody here who knows who to contact do so)?

Why doesn't the Ebay form have provision for explanation of additional relevant details when reporting concerns about listings?

Regards,  Kevin

So much for Trust & Safety,(it obviously doesn't exist on our site).

There is a second one:

Having the Email address in the listing is how the Romanian and Russian scammers list

Reported both via Facebook and that second one is already gone:

This listing (******) has been removed, or this item isn't available.

So why is it taking so long to remove the other one,(it might be that they are trying to "catch"

them).

With them having a bigpond Email addy surely they can at least narrow it down,Who knows.gif

Thanks for your efforts Go-Tazz,

It is odd that they would pull down the second one, but not identify the problem on the first one.

It may be Romanian type scam, but they know the Australian system well enough to use bigpond on Australian listings (I suspect it is probably an Australian scammer in this case).

I still don't understand why Ebay's fraud reporting system doesn't allow anywhere to give additional information to identify why you believe it is a fraud, if needed.

Kind Regards,  Kevin

Their reasoning behind it is generally that they need to leave it up to "investigate",(never mind if some

poor gullible member gets ripped of for $12k but they did their "best"),stubborn_smiley_by_mirz123-d4bt0te_zps12f1a5a3.gif

They have had scam accounts world wide and know the system well,(the Email addy was probably set up by

a gullible Australian member that was offered money to do so and they will be the one that is charged if

eBay or the authorities find them).

They may even have been shown how to set it up whilst the "boss" is overseas.

It was common for them to list from Romania on the US site,(although trucks and farm machinery are

more a Russian type scam operation).

They used to have a brief description box where you could tell them why you thought it was a scam listing.

When they did one of their "improvement sessions it disappeared along with some of the easier ways to

report listings,(it all became a let's hide it so no one thinks there are scam listings on here).

These days it could be anyone trying to make a quick buck,(there are enough refugees in Aus now from

each of the countries that are known for running scams who don't care about our laws or doing the right

thing),Angry head bang.gif

And with some irony if fraud could be more effictively reported, it would probably be reduced on the site quite substantially (so long as those employed to deal with it were also effective).

Unfortunately they just don't seem to be concerned about the fraud on here,(they know it's there but must

believe that it's not doing any harm to THEM or the site).

Any harm that happens to members is on their own back for using unsafe payment methods,(at times I believe

they leave it deliberately so that members do get stung and they will be told that they should've used PP).

When we had the brief description box, scam listings were removed quickly and we had Trust & Safety staff

that acted quickly,(I still have a listing in my watch list that leads to a scammer that should've being NARU'd

over a month ago when they were first reported or at least when they kept getting reported),stubborn_smiley_by_mirz123-d4bt0te_zps12f1a5a3.gif

That first scam truck listing has finally been removed, good.gif

Re: Reporting a listing that you suspect may be fraudulent

It turns out that I was the one who acted irresponsibly and immorally in this case.

I also assume that I will be punished (NARU'd ?) for mentioning that, too.

As long as fraud doesn't exist, there are no problems to be resolved. Hooray for Ebay!

Re: Reporting a listing that you suspect may be fraudulent

Their naming and shaming policy was bought in case an "innocent" seller was named or singled out in the

post,(that effectively also hides the scammers and as their report links are useless it makes it a great place for

scam activity).

That's why they got rid of the Hijack Hunters thread,(it was another way of hidden that there were scam

listing on this site).

The boards are run by an outside agency called Lithium and they have to enforce eBay's board policies,(it

doesn't matter what we think of those policies as we still have to abide by them if we want to post on these

boards),stubborn_smiley_by_mirz123-d4bt0te_zps12f1a5a3.gif

Can't give you advice on here as that's another breach of policy,(so you have a message).

At the top of the page is your user ID,Notifications and Messages,(which is what you click on).
