Sellers on eBay can choose whether to accept change-of-mind (aka buyer's remorse) returns, or whether not to.
They are of course obliged by law to act in accordance with Australian Consumer Legislation:
โIf you have a minor problem with a product or service, the business can choose to give you a free repair instead of a replacement or refund. When you have a major problem with a product, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund. For a major problem with a service, you can choose to receive compensation for the drop in value below the price paid, or a refund.โ
However, โthe consumer guarantees do not apply if you got what you asked for but simply changed your mind, found it cheaper somewhere else, decided you did not like the purchase or had no use for it.โ
Each eBay seller will set up their specific returns policy, as per the Setting up your returns policy page. Quoting: โWhether you accept returns or not, you have to specify a returns policy for each listing. You can enter the details when you list an item, or use business policies to create and manage your return policies. [...] When you sell on eBay, you need to state whether or not you accept returns, and if so, under what conditions.โ Note that โRemember that even if you choose not to offer returns, under eBay Money Back Guarantee, the buyer can still return an item if it doesn't match the listing.โ
In brief, sellers can select "No returns" in their returns policy. If a buyer wants to return an item for a "change of mind" reason, in such cases they will not be able to do so. If, however, the seller has ticked the yes box to accept returns, that means that he/she accepts returns for any reason whatsoever, even if the reason is ludicrous.
