I am closing down.... I wont get free listings on this ID but I can use my hubbys and my other ones. I will go to the other site...just made $30 on there and sent two 3 kg bags of books off. Its slower yes but its a good place to park my listings while I use the free ones.
I was going to close down at the end of the year anyway...my health is not good and I cant keep on. This way, it will slow down for me and I can relax a bit.
I dont buy my items wholesale...I am not a business...so I actually make very little. Its always been a hobby for me, a way to pass the time because I cant ever go out to work again and I was bored with just reading, watching telly etc.
Now I havent the energy. I think the fee hike is an insult...sorry ebay but thats what I think..>You have raised the store fee twice since I opened my store but THIS TIME its a huge increase and we are going to all feel it.
Why are you not loyal to the hobby sellers too? I know I have made you and paypal a lot of money over the years off every single thing I have sold here.
I am sorry but I am going to the other site. I cannot take all this holding out your hand for my precious dollars anymore.
I have nothing against ebay, I just have something against all the fees... on the other site its FREE to list and you only pay 2 % FVF.
Ebay has millions of people paying fees and I dont beleive for one second that ebay cant afford to give us a break . Why get us all to open a store and then say, sorry, we want business people, not YOU to own a store.
If you look at my feedback I have had barely a complaint, its all been good so its not like I and others like me are not delivering good service.
Sorry about the long ramble...I have just had it so in two weeks, I am closing. All my titles of all my items are going to say that too.
So goodbye to the good customers who have ebayed with me, it was fun while it lasted. Since I was made a powerseller, without even asking if I wanted to be one, i cant have the free listings...so.... I will not be using this one again it seems and its a shame when I have built up my feedback as i have. Another thing I am very sad about.
Some of you can afford to keep going, but I cant.
Beani

Hi Beanishells,
Sorry you aren't well. But good luck over there, don't forget to let your customers know where you have gone. I'm sure you and all others who take this option will do OK.
It is promotion that is required. So if enough sellers let others know, you may be surprised how well you do.
Good luck!

Hi Beanie,
Sorry you are still not well - I'm in much the same boat and thinking of doing exactly what you are in the next few months.
I need to keep going somehow, as have lots of stock and do enjoy the interaction as I also can't work outside the home.
eBay are quite greedy and becoming so arrogant, IMO, and it would be good to pay less in fees.
Good Luck and Good Selling.

Hi Beani. I am sorry you are closing down but I do understand
I agree with you. It has been a lot of fun & a hobby for me on eBay. I am not sure if I will be closing my store atm but I am thinking about it
I have been selling as a hobby for about 15 years & sales are not what they once were. I started on Stuff & Sold then moved on to eBay for the last 12 years or so
For hobbyists, such a steep price rise for a store, can just be too much. I have sailed over all the changes over the years but this may just force me to find another hobby
I have a number of other IDs to cash in on the free listings so I might continue to do this. I also predict it is only a matter of time until eBay remove the free listings, then all we will have will be the big businesses
Times are changing whether we like it or not. Another era
Good luck Beani xxx

Thanks Judy... Well, I already buy things from companies overseas who offer new items with free shipping. Because I just cant afford to waste my precious dollars on postage. I have never heard of stuff and sold. What is that?
Yes, ebay is probably being run by people who have never bought and sold just for fun...its all $$$$$ and too bad about the people like us who make it what it is.
I think you are right, one day we wont be selling anymore.
I have today already moved 17 duplicate listings to the other site as I have more than one item of them. I shall gradually move over. its a good place to park them and that way I can take my templates, which I paid for, over with me.
Its so sad, it makes me sad. But I have no choice.
I shall still be posting on the forum though so I will see you around Judy

well, scoped out what you're talkin' about
you say "just made $30 on there and sent two 3 kg bags of books off"
would appear that for 16 items that you listed on the rubbish site, that you got the grand sum of $7.99, lol,
rest are from two (that's 2 only) buyers, who appear to be willin' to pay you the grand sum of around 50cents to a whole dollar, for an item.
now, lady, in anyone's language, that's takin' the word "hobby" to a point where it couldn't be worth the effort
small wonder that the joint is so full of junk - and shysters.
Oh dear......:-(

If you class yourself as a hobby seller and are not making enough to cover an increase in store fees of twenty five bucks a week, especially with listing and FVFs being lower than they were a year ago, then you are exactly the reason ebay have done as they have.
When the upgrade to featured store and the lower fees started many people opened stores with very few items and a fairly low turnover, not good for ebay at all, large bandwidth with little return.
They are looking after hobby sellers, they can use 30 free listings a month and pay for extra listings if they cannot sell enough to cover a fifty buck a month store fee.
If I thought my store could not cope with a fee rise of $5.75 a week then I would not re open in November either. If my business model was so vulnerable that so small a weekly increase was enough to put me under then I would not open a store in the first place.
When you can buy a new book for a dollar including delivery from some sites and sellers then you really have to try selling something else, possibly in a different format, if you want to make any money.
As for the other site I gave it a try, even did reasonably well with a store for a while but unfortunately as the number of sellers increased without any increase in buyers it was no longer viable. Now and then I think I will give it a try and list a few things but it really isn't worth it.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

I think even if you just placed the minimum 29 free listings on ebay, you would still pull more sales from ebay than you would on the other place no matter how many listings you had listed there.
