Seller Payment Email trickery?

Got an email from eBay telling me that

" credit/debit card declined eBay's attempt to automatically deduct the amount due"

Yes, it was really from eBay. So I checked my credit card and everything was fine. No reason for it to decline anything.

So I manually went in and paid the bill via eBay's system with my credit card. Went through just fine.

Rereading the email I noticed the following

"As a reminder, past due accounts may be restricted from buying or selling until payment is received.

Say goodbye to credit card finance charges by signing up for Direct Pay, the easiest way to pay your eBay seller fees To sign up, go to www.ebay.com, click My eBay at the top of the page, sign in with your eBay User ID and password, click the "Seller Account" link (beneath My Account in the left navigation menu) and follow the instructions for updating your payment method."

So my question to all of you ...

Did you get an email like this when you paid your last seller fees? Do you suspect as I do that eBay wants us all to switch to direct deposit instead of credit card? Maybe eBay doesn't like paying the credit card fees.

It would be interesting to know how many sellers were told their credit card rejected the eBay bill.Woman Sad

Pam

Seller Payment Email trickery?

My fees come out of my PayPal account and if that is empty, it comes out of my linked savings account. That was how I set it up.

Me too, I can't see the point of withdrawing funds from Paypal only to pay the money back to ebay.

I'd be looking at the email more closely. WHy did it come from "ebay.com" and not "ebay.com.au"? May be a scam?

I'd be checking the headers to see if it is real. As bsal said, it could be a scammer. DO NOT click the link!!!

No, never seen that before. I too, have ebay fees taken out of my Paypal account. (defaults to savings, but I always leave enough in there for fees) I would think eBay prefer to take them that way.

You just made me think, though I lost my debit card and have just received new  one (with different numbers & expiry date) I will have to update my  payment details on a few places.. because payments will get rejected.

My ebay ---> seller account ---> choose automatic payment method

Choice is:

Paypal

Direct Credit

Credit Card

Perhaps eBay are encouraging those who pay by CC to change to Direct Credit, although why not Auto payment by Paypal as their first choice??

SCAM ALERT

Do not click any link in any email.

And if you are with ebay.com.au you should not click on an ebay.com link.

This could be the first wave of scams from when your account was hacked along with everyone else.

And on a practical sense why would Ebay encourage you not to add to their commisssions with paypal being taken out of the loop?

Ebay giving away money ????

come on put the glasses on.

Another questioning the ebay.com (American) link. Mine also come out of paypal. If I received an 'odd' email like that the

first thing I would do is 'mouse over' (NOT click) any links in the email - quite often it will show up a link unrelated to ebay or paypal.

If it appears suss I make sure all headers are showing (check your email as to how to show this) and then forward it off to the spoof department of ebay or paypal! They can/will investigate and the headers give them helpful information. They will probably send back a response containing some helpful advice also.
