Should I lodge an unpaid item case

Hi, need some advice..... I sold an item on my other ebay ID, the listing ended on the 26/9 ($17.00 in total) and I sent an invoice to the winning buyer on the same day and a reminder on the 30/9.

On the 30/9 I received an email from the buyer requesting my bank details which I provided on the same day and let her know I would check my account daily and once I received payment would be back in touch to confirm when I would be posting the item.

From 30/9 - 5/10 I checked my account daily and still no payment.

So yesterday (5/10) around midday,  I sent an email to the buyer advising that I had not received a payment yet and asked her to confirm if payment had been made.  (I thought maybe she had paid it to the wrong account??)

So far I haven't received a reply. I think I've been pretty patient & polite and have taken into account the long weekend and that it's been school holidays, but I'm starting to get tired of waiting. (I do also have blocks in place for non-paying bidders - as I have had one in the past and that was pretty frustrating - but that buyer made absolutely no effect to contact me within 7 days which led me to believe he had no intention of paying, hence I lodged an unpaid item case & got the fees reimbursed).

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I know I have to draw a line somewhere. Should I give her till Monday and send another email, then if  no reply is received by Wednesday lodge an unpaid item case? That would make it 2 weeks since the listing ended.

Would appreciate any advice, thanks Jo

Hi guys I believe I will run into a very similar problem within the next day or so because I have had bidders who have very low feedback (<5) and all of the 'positive' feedback are from sellers who have commented along the lines of "Sellers beware. Has not paid for the item.", "Not a very good experience. Do not sell to this person. Has not paid for item", "bought items then failed to pay. beware of this buyer", "Did not end up buying phone." just to name a few taken from their profiles.

Overall I am unsure with how to approach this because I foresee that this could happen again if I opened another auction once these guys fail to pay after 4 days or more and it'll take forever to actually find someone who is going to finally pay. Are there any processes in place to ban bidders who have in the past failed to pay more than once?

Thanks for reading and looking forward to your replies.

Re: Should I lodge an unpaid item case

to block bidders with more than 1 strike in last 12months / 6 months,

go to your my eBay page

Account Tab

Site Preferences

Buyer Requirements

and set up all your blocks, including unverified bidders with low fb etc.....

check the buyer Requirement Activity Log regularly to see how many bidders you blocked!!

with all non payers, open dispute after day 4 and CLOSE it after a further 4 days, then relist.

Re: Should I lodge an unpaid item case

Just an update... after opening an unpaid case yesterday, Well that definitely did the trick.......I found an hour glass in the payment status this morning indicating that the buyer had now sent payment on the 7/10/2012 and after checking regularly throughout the day, the payment was in my bank account this afternoon. Hooary!!

I have since posted the item and sent an email confirming receipt of payment and that the item has been posted to the buyer, but I have still not received any communications from the buyer. So it makes me wonder if I will now be left with negative feedback.

Just wanting to know from other sellers' prior experience, where do I stand if I do cop a negative? Can it be removed? or will it depend on what the buyer writes and if she mentions the unpaid item case. I'm using a new Ebay id, so this is my 2nd sale on this id and I don't really want to cop a negative. "ss1630" indicated that this is what happened to her, which is so unfair!

Advice would be appreciated! thanks Jo

Re: Should I lodge an unpaid item case

Yay ~ great you got payment ๐Ÿ˜„

In my experience, and I am sure that of many other sellers, only a few late payers make contact with me after they have made a payment after a dispute is opened.

I don't think you should stress bout negatives in retaliation. I think when this type of thing happens it is an exception, or that other parts of the sale process, such as excessive messaging re payment, influence the feedback left.

If you did get a negative, it would depend on what was written in the comment on whether it could be removed or not. I think cross that bridge if you get to it.

... Enjoy the proceeds of your 2nd sale ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Should I lodge an unpaid item case

Have something similar atm. Buyer sent a message saying she will pay in a few days, then a message asking for my bank details which I supplied, two days later she asked for bank details again. I smell the run around so I opened an unpaid item file and she sent a snippy message saying she had paid at a bank "since you cannot wait" but still no payment received by me. And it's just $5 bucks. Le sigh.

Re: Should I lodge an unpaid item case

This is why I no longer wait more than the 4 days to open a dispute, buyers either pay up straight away, after the auto reminder on day 2 or they usually don't chip in until you open a dispute so waiting just prolongs the agony.

Its those bidders that stuff it up for others who end up having problems.

What do i mean by that? i run my own side business making tutu's. i had orders from customers for tutu's but i didnt have the material. So i went ahead and brought material from a regular ebayer shop. Later on i never heard back from my customers, nor did i get any payment and i fell sick so after communicating with this ebay shop before, i sent them an email explaining that i had fallen sick and had been sick for a couple of days that i wouldnt be able to pay for a week and a half BUT i would be paying so not to freak out about it.... I never got a response back. Then all of a sudden i have a case open against me. Again, i send a message to them asking if they had recieved my previous message, to please give me until this coming Tuesday to pay for the material because that is when i get paid from my normal job. i am only a casual so once i was stuck in bed sick i wasnt getting paid anything. If there was a problem with that to please contact me and let me know BUT that i would be paying on the Tuesday.

i now have a strike against me, i have been blocked from the ebay seller so i cannot contact them again to ask what is going on which sucks seeing i will be paying for it asap. I have just recieved today sixty dollars to start off a huge order which will end up being five hundred dollars plus on material alone at the end, so i have been able to just pay for a few of the items, but because the person couldnt wait, i could not get th original material i needed, so they have lost out in my business.

I dont get that. Why are there sellers who do that? Especially seeing that i went out of my way and even called them. Which wasnt a cheap call either. It was an international call from Australia to Canada...

Do you think i was expecting too much from the seller? What would you have done if i had brough stuff from you which was btw 150 dollars worth and i had in the past paid straight away this was just a once off? Would you have given me the time to pay for the amount or would you have done the same thing this ebayer has done?
