I have a defect for a cancelled transaction for being out of stock. I didn't ever cancel a transaction because of this.
I contacted ebay who told me the item number. Because someone opened a case for INR against me (no tracking) I decided to refund them through ebays system (that is basically the only option I have).
Not only that I received an email stating that it wouldn't effect my seller standing or some nonesense......Well it did becuase my sales have dried up ever since that came through.....
So should I not refund and screw buyers around now when an item goes missing?
They said I would be transferred but they hung up on me........I am calling again....

ebay say they will transfer a call but it just hangs up......

They also keep saying something about projected performance...what the hell does that mean.....Another call back to be hung up I guess..

So far just on my account, I've found that a defect is issued then removed (for out of stock) whenver I have refunded an INR request via eBay, so I think you'll probably have success (eventually) if you can talk to someone about it.
I reckon you should try the "Call me" option - A) because it's eBay's mistake, so the least they can do is sort it out on their own dime , and B) because I have actually found I get in touch with a person who can address my query much faster. (I don't know why, but maybe a different call centre handles the "call me" option, or something o_O ).

I have been using the call me option...The time they called me before the last call I went and made lunch while the phone was still playing the silly music for about 2 hours.......I had it on speaker. Unfortunately I don't think they pay a per minute rate.
Now they have said that the other people that they tried to transfer me to will call me back within the next day...
I have noticed they end up dissapearing (under the old system) but it doesn't change the fact that it affects the best match and sales.

Oh... 😞
You're right, of course, but the only things I can do are rage at them with you and thank goodness this will all be over soon. (As in, it won't be counted as a defect next month - maybe that's why they're fobbing you off, which I don't intend to be a justification for their lack of care, it's clearly not).
Edit: Ignore me - cancelled sales for out of stock do still = a defect, so I've not said (nor can I suggest) anything useful, other than to keep hounding them about it.

I do not understand Out Of Stock. I list items on my accounts for Good Till Canceled, It I list 20 Available and they all sell the buyers cannot see the listing anymore until I relist and revise the item with another 20 items. Where does this Out Of Stock come into affect. Would Like to know.
Thank You

I have had two accidently relisted sold items, that got me two defects. With the new % means even with only two out of 500 I only have margin for one more.
A trap not to fall into is if buyers contact you and request a refund (ie not via return item case) if you agree and want to refund you must select at buyer cancellation request, even if there is a legitimate fault. Otherwise you will get a seller instigated cancellation strike. I was adsvised of this by Ebay who overturned a defect by me accidently selecting wrong option.
If you are out of stock or you find a flaw before shipping, it is a default to notify buyer and cancel. It is not a defect to knowingly send faulty item/different item/empty package/claim lost in post, just as long as you resolve when they complain

Any system where you are better off sending a box full of fresh air (than owning up to an oversight or error) is a flawed system. Wake up ebay! Mistakes happen. We try out best but we are not perfect.

Hi, just to clarify my post, when you use the out of stock feature, as you mentioned, buyers can no longer purchase from a 0 quantity listing even if they can find it (via external link, or it's on their watch list for example), so that can't result in a defect in any way.
An out of stock defect occurs when a listing has a quantity available (so buyers can still purchase it), but after purchase the seller cancels the sale because they are out of stock and can't supply it.
