Please help me stop sellers from swamping me with offers simply because I looked at something. The items that I look at are usually something I want to sell for comparison. So I am wanted to sell it not get 100s of offers to buy it

Don't blame the sellers, as they don't send the offers - eBay does.
If you're not interested in the offers, it takes but a second to delete them, and literally no time at all to ignore them completely.
Speaking from personal experience, once you've ignored enough of them, both the volume and frequency of receiving them decreases. However, messaging the seller has the opposite effect.

Maybe browse in incognito if it bothers you
But as said, don't lay the blame on sellers
Be no different than someone blaming you for sending said offers after they look at your items
Which may well happen every day

I browse the sold listings so I don't get offers. If I need to look at current listings, I just log out of my account beforehand.

Yes, it's intrusive and not necessary. Tactics like this would drive buyers away surely. Everybody is fed up with any old popup online. I had a few 'offers' just because I looked at two items, like you, researching.

On the bright side, at least you are getting real offers.
I'm a buyer and I'd welcome some offers for things in my watch list but my last 2 offers have come with prices dearer than the asking price!!!
