Re: Strange goings on with shipping address changes

I've had that a couple of times.  If they sound like a decent buyer or if they are a return customer, I've run the risk, and posted it to the address that they've asked me too.  Otherwise I point out to them that the ebay address is different to the paypal address,..... and that we are supposed to post to the PayPal address...or neither of us are covered.  Sometimes they haven't realised the addresses are different.

Re: Strange goings on with shipping address changes

fair enough surely if the buyer has mesaged an address ,they know where they live right now  , and if there is a problem surely ebay can see the message , and paypal are not with ebay anymore is that correct

Re: Strange goings on with shipping address changes

That's correct.  But you won't be covered by PayPal if a problem arises, and you haven't sent it to the PayPal address.

Re: Strange goings on with shipping address changes

i think i will stick to pick ups and allow the small amount of deliveries.

please explain covered for what, i still have to have tracking for ebay to cover it ,why do i need paypal to cover it.

if it does not get there and my tracking says it went there and my email says deliver to ebay, whats wrong with that.

Re: Strange goings on with shipping address changes

Joe,

When a buyer pays with PayPal there are a couple of things the seller needs to have in place to have seller protection.

a). you MUST mail to the address given by PayPal at the time of checkout completion by the buyer.

b). you MUST use a delivery service that provides tracking.

c). you MUST have proof of lodgement (ie do not drop in a red street box, go over the counter).

If you dont have any ONE of the above and something goes wrong with the delivery both ebay and PayPal will disown you. ie the seller pays any refund.

If the buyer claims Item Not Received (INR) and the tracking shows that it has indeed been delivered (somewhere) then you (the seller) will NOT be liable for any refund that the buyer may get.

If the buyer claims INR and the tracking shows that it has NOT been delivered (ie lost by AP) then as long as you can prove lodgement (ie the lodgement receipt) again you will be covered. The buyer may get his refund from either ebay or PayPal (depending upon where the original dispute was lodged) but it will not cost you. Or they (the buyer) may lodge a claim with AP in this case. Good luck with the latter!

If you DO NOT use the PayPal address then no matter you have any of the other two in place you will not be covered if something goes wrong.

In our case since we always (well mostly anyway) use standard mail without tracking so we are doomed to lose every case of INR claim. But we accept this as a risk of doing business and just replace reported lost items. We get about 1 in 1000 reported lost.

So since we are not covered anyway if/when a buyer sends a message to ask for a change of address we just do it as it's no additional penalty to us if it goes wrong.

But if you normally send with all 3 of the above in place and a buyer sends a message asking for an address change, then unless I trusted and knew them 100% I would ask them to cancel the existing transaction and re-buy the item giving the new shipping address during checkout. Neither ebay nor PayPal will recognise any message to this effect between you and the buyer, so you would be most likely doomed in the event of an INR claim.

Re: Strange goings on with shipping address changes

Woman Very HappyHave been lucky  living in a country town i caught up with the mail truck ( imagine crazed women chasing truck off the road yelling stop stop Woman LOL) Actually local post lady found parcel and have sent to new address as showing on shipping for paypal    .  Ebay help did say buyer did change their address during payment process and as soon as id marked as sent . Hopefully they recieve item safely and get great enjoyment from it and we all live happily ever after --The End-----Ill double check before i post as it was a first for me having a different address --and her disabled pensioner story sounded very well rehearsed   Thank you to every one who posts on here as ive learnt many things reading advice  and had a few laughs at  posts

Re: Strange goings on with shipping address changes

My very simple solution to sending to the correct address is I don't look at the ebay item sold email, I only do anything once the buyer has paid so I only see the address that is in checkout at the time of payment.

I can't say I find it difficult to keep my address up to date.....it has been the same for the last 45 years.
