The old "accidental bid" story with a twist

Had an auction running that ended on the weekend.

It was for a rather large car part.

I had the auction set as a pick up only but did write in the item description "pick up preferred or buyer can arrange a courier"

The item sold to someone in another state.

I messaged them saying

"Will you be picking this item up, or, as per auction description, will you be arranging a courier to collect? If you are going to use a courier, let me know and i will box it up and send you the box measurements and weight so you can get courier quotes".

I get no reply until last night when my phone rings.

The guy had pulled my details from ebay.

First he says "If i post you a box, can you just send it to me via Aust Post. I'll pay you an extra $20."

I reply that I have a box but it is to big to go via Australia post.

I remind him of the auction description and said he will need to organise a courier.

He then tells me that he only meant to bid $80.00 on the item but accidently typed in $800.00 and as he's on a pension he really cant afford to buy it.

I say, "But when you placed your bid the bidding was already past $80.00."

He says "Ohh, im sorry. I just cant buy it".

I say "Ok, but you really shouldnt bid on things if you have no intention of paying" and i hang up.

Now ive done a 2nd chance offer to the person who didnt get it but i dont know what to do about the original guy.

He came across as a complete twit and i want to give him a non paying strike.

But, i worry that one the non paying ebay email gets sent to him, im gonna get more phone calls from him.

What would you do in this situation?

ohh and forgot to add. This type of thing is the reason sellers need to be able to leave neg feedback.

If i do end up sending this guy a non paying bidder strike, can he still neg me?

Just open the dispute asap, and close immediately the option is available to do so. Once the dispute is closed eBay will issue the strike and feedback will be blocked. Add the buyer to your BBL.

And then i can close it straight away?

Hi Daydream,

Yes, go to item sold, select "more actions", then select "resolve a problem".

If he doesn't pay he can't leave you fb, he will be issued with a strike. He has 4 days to pay.

If he does in fact end up paying, he can leave you fb.

sorry I should add, you need to wait 4 days then you can close it yourself if he doesn't pay.

Once you open the dispute they have another 4 days to pay. 4 days after the dispute is opened it can be closed and the bidder will get a strike. To close it you simply go in to your resolution centre once the 4 days have passed and cfollow the prompts to close it and issue the strike. Your FVF will also then be credited back to your account.

Unless they pay, they can't leave feedback.

What BA means, I am sure is to close as soon as the option to close becomes available = exactly to the second 4 days later.  But first send an invoice with the $80 (or whatever it would cost to post).  That way just in the case he decide to pay he would have to pay the whole amount.  In this moment he can just pay for the item only, and then he can leave FB.

the item was listed as pick up only.

I dont know how much it would cost to send as the buyer was meant to organise that.

So the worst that could happen is...i open the dispute, he doesnt like that so he pays for the item via paypal, leaves me a neg then reverses the paypal payment?

Is that right?

Add to that he could also start harrassing me via the phone.

What other options do i have? How does a mutual cancellation work?
