I am a non store owner. Yesterday I had 40 free listings. Today I have 39 yet I have not listed anything. One of my sales came to an end and now sits at the bottom of the listings with a "relist item" button, which informs me that "this item didn't automatically reslist".
Investigating and getting the item number for the so-called used free listing, brings up this very item, which tells me that the item is relisted with "good till cancelled" Doing a general search for it, and yes, it is indeed relisted, but does not show as such in my items for sale. I wonder what would happen if I went to relist this item from my sales list and if it would then show as another free listing used. I have not received any email from eBay regarding these changes, nothing at all.
Your thoughts please.

had the exact same thing happen to me. this is COMPLETELY UNDERHANDED. I have all items on the free auto relist (up to 9 times) before it just goes to unsold. got quite the shock when i checked my invoice. $1.65 per insertion fee - for 'free relists'. they will credit them, do not pay! it's a complete and utter rort and i'm livid.I too am killing off every listing. Ebay has gone to the pack.
Ever wondered why Aussie sellers are being charged a $1.65 insertion fee when US ebay charges 30c (AU 40c) for the exact same 'service'. Someone? Ebay certainly can't explain it.....

Simple maths.
Population of USA - 372 million
Population of Australia - 24 million
They wouldn't make any money out of Aussie sellers at 40c a relist.

That's a terrible argument - and what relevance does it have to me, the user of the platform? It's EXACTLY the same service. Ebay wouldn't make any money from running Australian ebay? what, with the double dipping on paypal, final value fees AND final value fees on shipping. How did they make money before? poor, poor ebay. May I ask how Gumtree make money then, after all it is an ebay site, perhaps it advertising and we all know that ebay doesn't have advertising....cough...... Fact remains Aussie sellers are being gouged. At least you tried....it's more than ebay support staff could offer.

And today, I don't care for the argument.
Paypal is no longer owned by ebay BTW, so no double dipping there.
Yep, a real fiend.
I've been wondering whether ebay are trying to get all the pick-up items and all the unsaleable junk off ebay and onto gumtree. Even if it does mean gumtree ends up a dumping ground, at least it gets it off ebay, which is where they earn their money.

Hi, if you choose the offer reduced fees to watcher service and your item has say 12 hours left, the potential buyer has availability to accept offer within 48 hrs, this takes you over the 12 hrs left, and if buyer has not responded then you will be charged another fee..so be mindful if you are enticed into taking this option

stawka was/is talking about economies of scale - your response is taking far too a simplistic view of the matter.
It's the reason why, when I purchase a box of 50 envelopes, they are 50c each, but when I purchase a box of 1000 envelopes, they are 10c each. They're exactly the same envelopes, but if I am in a position to hand over a $100 in one go instead of $25 in 4 separate transactions, the seller's costs are reduced and they get more capital, thus we both benefit. The US is in a position to hand over about 15x more than what Australia is, and the sheer volume of people / sellers / items on eBay.com mean eBay's costs can be spread over many more listings.
You also can't do a 1:1 comparison with the cost in USD, because the economic market is vastly different - wages and the cost of living is lower in the US, and our $ is not at parity. Things tend to cost as much as the market will bear, so in a country where minimum wage can be as low as 33% of what ours is (sometimes as little as $2.30 if they work in customer service and are reliant on tips), the market will demand lower prices to make things affordable.
eBay in the US also has more viable competition for sellers - Amazon being the biggest one (who - funnily enough - charge USD 99c, about AUD$1.40) to list something if you don't pay a monthly fee (equivalent of a store subscription on eBay). The easiest way to compete with another business is to have lower prices, at least in the short term.
In other words, conditions in the US favour lower prices. Conditions in Australia do not. It's never a good idea to just look at the cost of something and think if you're paying more, you're being ripped off - if people want US prices, they have to start with working for US wages.
Gumtree charge for upgrades, but I really don't think the site is there to increase profits - I suspect eBay like being able to divert sellers who are dissatisfied with eBay in general, or sellers of pick up items etc.

.......and here's me foolishly thinking ebay was a worldwide markeplace.
it's a simplistic view because it's a simplistic issue. Economies of scale are irrelevant.
