Thinking of getting back into selling on ebay with a store. Is it still worth it?

Hi there,

I'm thinking of getting back into selling on ebay through a store on my selling account. I used to have a store over a year ago. I gave it up but I want to try and hopefully get back into selling like I onced did before.

I had a fairly successfull store running, but  I just wanted to know from the selling community if it is still viable to own a store? Its been over a year since I had a store, what are some things I should be aware of, or things that I might have missed since last owning a store?

olesilver, things have changed a lot for the worse in the last 12 months as a number of posters have noted. I agree with everything they have said and are personally winding back my own stores to do something else unrelated to ebay. Having said that my stores are still trading reasonably well without any major effects ( at this stage ) from most changes. The one that has realy done the damage is the FVF ( 10 % commision ) on postage. Many of my sales are to international buyers and the postage cost can often equel the value of the items I sell. Even with most of my items still being local postage the FVF means ebay is taking nearly 50% more from me in commisions than 12 months ago. This either comes straight out of my profit, or I charge the buyers more. My stores are still plodding along maintaining reasonable sales and basically still doing OK. so it can still work here. It just feels like a lot more unstable and hostile enviroment to trade in. If you are keen, with a good product to sell, ebay can still work. Personally I just wouldnt reccomend it.

Yeah I guess I might start of with that, since I wont have many different items to sell but just larger quantities of the items instead.

I wouldn't recommend selling on eBay to my worst enemy...

Thanks for your info. Since they introduced the FVFs on the postage cost, would it be easier to decrease my actual charged postage cost or just sell free postage and absorb it onto the final price with free shipping, to avoid getting lower stars on the postage?

I agree with bellieblue-oz ......  just start off in a small way ..... use the 40 free listings for a couple of months and see how you go 🙂
