Top tips for selling - tongue in cheek

So while watching the tumbleweed, I see a new notification. The excitement, the anticipation. Have I made a sale, is it a message from a buyer wanting to do a combined order for everything I have listed? ๐Ÿ˜ or is it Ebay apologising for a gross fee overcharge and offering 5 years fee free sales? ๐Ÿ˜€ I can barely contain myself as I launch onto the keypad

It's a message.........

from Ebay............(still hope for fee overcharge lol)

Top tips for selling on Ebay! ๐Ÿ˜ž

That crushing moment when we reach for another bottle of tequila and vow to do better tomorrow.......Bridget Jones style

BUT what if we give them tips on how to help us sell more ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ŒโœŒ

Go for it! What would your tips be for Ebay?

You've got to be joking. How are they going to know how much we can fit in an envelope, or even in a satchel for that matter?

It is a fantasy thread, but.

eBay should read through my wish list, and actively seek out sellers selling such items at the prices that I am prepared to pay. These sellers should be given zero-emission company cars and regular foot massages to encourage them.

Objectively, ebay would be better advised to invest in supplying the cars and massages to people who buy from me.

Re: Top tips for selling - tongue in cheek

I've got another tip for eBay, how about crediting a wasted listing after someone gets a strike when a non-payment case closes?

If a buyer cancels before paying you actually do get to relist the same item for free (no insertion fee, and it doesn't take one of the freebies either), but not if someone bids, wins and then wastes your time by not responding whatsoever in the 8+ days it takes for the non-payment case to open and close (depending on how long you let it slide before opening a case). While you get the FVFs back you don't get the listing back.

Re: Top tips for selling - tongue in cheek

Yes agreed that is an issue, same as buyers from other states buying pick up items. Zero regard for the overall 'cost' to the seller. All about them, bully their way through and are used to getting their own way. Last one I copped a negative for, zero prior contact because he knew I wouldn't post, I had PICK UP ONLY plastered all over the description lol so to see his purchase and note on the invoice asking me to send postage cost and he would pay? Not advisable to react the way I did but he knew exactly what he was doing, and deserved my reaction because it was all about him, zero regard for my costs, one of which was the lost free listing as you say. That is not retrievable.

I have zero tolerance for entitled narcissists and while I'm here venting lol

Top tip for Ebay - don't send buyers a message encouraging them to leave a negative feedback, particularly when the buyer ignored seller requirements, yes the buyer/*#$@ sent me a screenshot of that message prior to leaving the negative.

My top tip of all, my toppest tip ๐Ÿ˜‚ is to get rid of feedback altogether if you can't regulate it effectively

Okay now where's that vodka? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Disclaimer: I don't even drink. Well rarely. Does twice a year count?

Re: Top tips for selling - tongue in cheek

Get their translation right.  'Botany NSW' is actually in Beijing China and 'Chullora NSW' is in Shanghai.

'Broome WA' is in Dongguan and the island nation of 'New Zealand' is really an island called Hong Kong.

BUYER BEWARE !

Re: Top tips for selling - tongue in cheek

When you list pick up items, why don't you block all the other states? The only way someone could mess you around hen is if they live at the other end of the same state, or if they're in your state but put another address at checkout, but at least it'd lessen the chances of getting someone who wants you to post it.

Re: Top tips for selling - tongue in cheek

That seems like a sensible option.

Perhaps offer sellers a variety of options for pick-up items, such as:

โญ— block all other states than the state in which your item is located

Default is bid/purchase from any buyer is allowed.

โญ— bidders/buyers in other states will see a pop-up reminder before they can bid or purchase

Default is no pop-up reminder for bidder/buyer.

โญ— bidder/buyer receives pick-up information in their invoice

Default is that pick-up information is not included in invoice.

Pop-up could look like this:

=======================================================

This is a pick-up only item. Check that you are able to pick up

this item, or that the seller has agreed to let you organise a

friend or a courier to pick it up on your behalf.

Do you want to proceed with purchasing/placing a bid?

                                                    โญ— Confirm           โฌค Cancel

=======================================================

Invoice could look like this:

ebay

Thanks for your purchase, Murgatroyd! Your

order is confirmed.

This is a pick-up only item. The seller has specified the pick-up address as

    18 Nevabilt Ave

I don't offer local pick-up very often. Only for a few, rare, big items with price tags that justify the extra time spent on them. At least a third of these items go to interstate buyers who arrange their own couriers.

One of the smoothest interstate local pick-ups was an unrestored, vintage motor cycle. The buyer over 1000 km. away organised a large motor cycle dealer from the city to pick it up and then forward it on to the buyer. All I had to do was roll it into the dealers specialised, covered motor cycle trailer. Easy Peasy.

I sold a large industrial air compressor interstate. It was mounted on a trailer. That one I towed to a freight depot in the city for an extra $100 cost to the buyer.

Recently I sold an outboard motor interstate. Just wrapped a ball of used bubble wrap and cardboard around it, left it at the front door and the courier company the buyer organised did the rest.

Local pick-ups are a pain for small items and are usually more trouble than they are worth, but for unusual, valuable items, some buyers will go to a lot of trouble and expense in order to organise their own courier pick-ups and delivery.

Re: Top tips for selling - tongue in cheek

Some people don't want the hassle of posting certain items or organising a courier, or having to fit in with a courtier that the buyer organises. I believe there's already the option to block specific states/regions from buying so it'd pay to use those if sellers really only want local pick ups. I can't remember how to do it but I've seen it explained before.
