Hi All,
Can you open an unpaid item case and simultaneously block the buyer? That is- wait 4 days, open case/block buyer, wait another 4 days and close? So as to prevent the buyer paying after you’ve opened the case and trashing your feedback?
My understanding of non-payers is to wait, contact them, wait again, contact again to explain the procedure and offer to help new buyers/ebayers (if their stats/feedback are low- we all start somewhere and so on).
I’ve set my seller preferences about as hard as they go- but they don’t go too far. The maximum I can set to is:
* Block buyers with unpaid item strikes- minimum possible setting is 2 strikes in your choice of 1, 6 or 12 months.
* Block buyers with policy violation reports- minimum possible setting is 4 policy violation reports in your choice of 1 or 6 months.
* Block buyers with a negative feedback score of -1 or lower. That’s the only option for blocking buyers with 'low’ feedback- just
from -1 to -3. I didn’t know you could trade at all with a negative score.
* Block Everyone On Party List
I’ve had a few iffy ‘buyers’ recently and so revisited my settings.... then realised my ‘settings’ only go so far.
So...
1) Can you open unpaid and block at the same time for feedeback-trashing-prevention?
2) Is this really as robust as the settings get?

1) Yes, but it doesn't affect the current transaction.
2) Yes.

Thanks Davewil.
1) When you say it doesn't affect the current transaction- do you mean I could do both things (unpaid and party list block) but if they pay within the 4 days after case is opened, the party block list won't stick and they can still trash feedback?
2) Thanks for confirmation... That's some mighty protection there! I thought a feedback of 1 was a 'lil dodgy. But thank goodness I can block buyers with -1 to -3.... I feel safer now.

Blocking them is sensible if they don't pay by the end of the dispute but it does not have any effect on the current transaction. I have opened hundreds of unpaid item disputes and the vast majority of them have paid before I have to close it. I have never had one of them leave me a neg.
I send an invoice on day 3 and open a dispute at the end of day 4, never had a problem with doing it that way.
