Whilst it used to fit through the letter gauge( Past tense)
for those sellers who think about doing this be aware you may not have to pay it, maybe your buyers will have to foot the bill, you might cop a neg for your trouble.

Actually that's a matter of translation and yours is incorrect.

I used to sell a particular item actually that went large letter but was quite border line
In my experience, if an item is "borderline", AP will invariably class it as a parcel and send an underpaid notice to the seller (or the buyer if the seller is not identified). Letter items must be able to slide easily through the slot without resistance to satisfy AP requirements. If an item is "borderline" it probably won't.

Quote: Here's a secret. The item has been delivered. Aus post will follow up with one further request for payment and then you will hear no more. How do I know this? It used to happen to me quite often. Never once has payment been really really chased
.
.
Sure sounds like ripping off the system to me! .
.
And as Aust Post monitors these boards,
.
I am sure there will now be follow up from them .
.
Ripping off/Defrauding Aust Post is a Commonwealth offence
.
Stealing from Australia Post is considered a Commonwealth Offence under the Telecommunications and Postal Services Act 1989.
.
Although the penalties for stealing from Australia Post are similar to those for other larceny offences,
.
Australia Post is a government organisation, which means that any crimes committed against it are considered to be federal offences.
.
If you are found guilty of stealing from Australia Post, you could find yourself facing prison for up to five years
.
.
It is not over until the Fat Ladies post

I'm really worried now....positively quivering.
Wondering when they will send a court summons for the approx $12 I don't owe them?????
Like I said. It fitted through the slot. And approx 96 out of 100 sold were delivered no issues.
So unless you know the facts of the matter perhaps it's best not to comment.
And if Aus Post choose not to follow up their letters that's up to them and their welcome to take me to court and I am perfectly within my rights to let people know am I not? Or do we now have censorship on this board.
End of.

A workaround for thick letters.
I post a lot of large letters and have had this problem in the past.
Australia Post use a dimension - 20mm as max for thickness - NOT an opinion.
Use of the gauge is a rather arbitrary process I've found.
Counter staff will often argue the toss with ease of fitment but actually, if it goes through, easily or not, it's less than 20mm.
Sometimes sorting centre staff will come to the same conclusion.
These days I just post anything marginal in a street box to avoid arguments.
If I should get a letter from AP I give them a call and state the actual dimension.
I use a micrometer (Bunnings cheap plastic version) and record the actual dimension.
Aus Post have never failed to cancel the notice.
OP - actually Aus Post allow an overweight margin for error (10% according to my postmaster).
Just like the letter problem, sometimes sorting centre staff are unaware of this.
You need to know your weights but if you do, you can argue the point and perhaps have a win.
Aus Post are pricey enough already and I'm more than a little teed off with having to pay out almost $5 for a few extra grams.
They really need a mid rate or make the small satchel 1kg IMO.
They don't seem to realise that if they charge too much for what are essentially small and often low cost items they will finish up carrying a lot more imported parcels at a considerable loss.

i will, ONLY when AP uses proper glue.
2014 and they cant find a good glue for stamps??...how laughable..............!!
What size is the padded bag?
Anything bigger than standard letter size is $1.40 for up to 125gms.
I haven't had a self stick stamp fall off.
I did get a large letter weighed at the PO today... 127gms.. 2 grams over.. needed a third stamp.

That's exactly right, up to 125g is $1.40. I too have never had stamps fall off, they stick like doggy doo to a blanket. In fact, in my haste one day, I stuck the stamps on the wrong side and couldn't get them off again. When I tried, it started to tear the outside of the bag, so I just cut my losses and put a black line through them.
I have heard of people losing stamps off those plastic coated bags though, like the cheap ones you can get from Officeworks.
