Pity watchcount has closed at ebays request. Was excellent to check on non paying bidders to see if they were still active and buying while giving lame excuses or ignoring emails

Watchcount brought about its own demise by being seen as a negative thing. Which it was, as it stood.
It had its points as a help tool, making assistance faster, yes. I get that.
If it had been opt-in, it might still be here. As that is not a breach of privacy.

So your question really is redundant, it won't happen, any privacy questions "when another person comes up with the same code" requires no response as it wont happen.
I don't want to be the propgator of argument here, but yes (most likely) it will. (Sorry ๐ )
As I said in my previous post, I won't miss it personally and I do actually get the privacy concerns - I don't begrudge anyone who would prefer the specifics of their purchase history to not be available publically.
But eBay's API is available to anyone and everyone (who knows how to use it), and it's not eBay's code that prevents such software / applications from being able to return the data.

actually, it was a comment about my current mindset, not other posters' comments, and certainly not yours.
watchcount is gone, life goes on, we will adapt, the boards will not cease to exist.

I can forsee a time when they will disappear because they are no longer providing the help that justified their existence.
The boards of today are a shadow of what they were even 2 years ago, let alone the vibrant place they were 5 years ago.

I wonder why these members that were so outraged that watchcount breached privacy laws are not concerned about ebay allowing anyone at all to see how much they have sold within a certain time frame through completed listings. Ebay give you no opt in or opt out yet you are not complaining about that.
Perhaps those members don't sell?

Must say I am disappointed that it has gone! Whilst I get the point about privacy, who doesn't care about that, it was a great tool that went some way to trying to balance the scales against scammer buyers. In an ideal world such a tool would be pointless, but in the world of eBay it was invaluable.

Watchcount hasn't been axed, actually it's name now reflects what the site is all about and it remains an excellent tool for what it was originally intended to do.
the whoo harr is all about the privacy of individuals, both sellers and buyers, who, rightfully, want their basic privacy rights respected and the introduced snoop page that had been very cleverly concealed in a menu bar that had the potential to destroy that respect.
When I was first informed about Watchcount I thought it was just that, it wasn't until a considerable time later that I began to wonder where posters were coming up with, what should have been, private information. I never gave Watchcount any credit for being able to supply the info untill some time, later again, that the secret was let out of the bag and I began to explore the site. I quickly found the opt out tab, and did just that. Many other "informed" people have also opted out but there must have been many more IDs posting on the boards that didn't have any knowledge of the site at all and were being confronted with their private information for all to see who read the boards disguised as, ----- help? How many IDs would have come to the boards if they were aware of what "help" meant? Probably be a couple of bogans from the ACT and a couple more without any self respect ... IMO.
I don't have any problems with Watchcount in it's present format but I certainly will not miss the bidders and sellers tab.
Please tell me oddsandendsoz, how did you use the site to balance the scales against scammer buyers?

How? Interested to know. The best tool against scammers is keep your wits about you, seller protection and UPI for strikes.

Sellers want advertising surely?
If I see that, for example, you have sold 100s of items at a good price without any issues, then I'd buy from you versus someone with no track record.
again...read the posts. I for one have sold here.
A good seller would be pleased at the free publicity. Sales at a good rate with no negs is an attraction to buyers.
Totally different to have your wares on show...sellers want buyers to see those. Completed listings, sucessfully handled, can add to buyer confidence.
