Pity watchcount has closed at ebays request. Was excellent to check on non paying bidders to see if they were still active and buying while giving lame excuses or ignoring emails

I bet you have an email account, facebook account, twitter or other social media accounts do you carry on about them having to protect your privacy to. Don't you have to set up your or opt out of what information is available to the public. Isn't it the same as any other site????
actually, eBay assisted watchcount in providing them with access to their code/site.
eBay, having politely asked for the buyer purchase history tool to be retired, are unlikely to ever let another writer of code have the required access to eBay code.
So your question really is redundant, it won't happen, any privacy questions "when another person comes up with the same code" requires no response as it wont happen.
Time to move on. When I read comments about how good watchcount was for helping posters who didn't provide enough information, or come back to provide more information, all I now see is BLAH BLAH BLAH, wah wah wah, I want my dummy"

Title of the item is more than sufficient to bring up any RELEVANT details for helping out here.
Your posts read as if you want general access. I hope that's how you mean them.
Since you are yet to address whether opt-in, is reasonable.

Ruin things for others?
How?
Anyone who wants to help, can get the item title.
All this "ruins" is public access to private info.
By the way...
I have personally had my purchases up here, through snoopers. More than once. You should read the facts before posting. I've already mentioned that here in this very thread.

As far as I can see members would be as lazy about opting in as they were about opting out.
The option was always on Watchcount to opt out....long before the steps were posted on the ebay boards.
Whenever members asked how we knew what item they were talking about they usually received a PM to tell them. It is not as though information was splashed all over the internet about the site and the whole thing only became an issue when a certain poster would not let it go and then the steps to opt out were posted.
Funny how all the hoo haa resulted in ebay's request to pull the site.
A bit like the Hijack Hunters IMO....they quietly went about their task but once their work became well known they were shut down.
It looks to me as though ebay wants to shut down any site or function that may help members in any way.
If they don't like members helping other members maybe they need to make Customer Service reps available to do what we do in our free time.

Hello, everyone. This thread is getting a little off-topic. Could we please bring the discussion back to [insert topic]. Thanks

Lazy, would cease when informed they need to, to let those who want to help, help.
If that was the option required to get assistance.
With watchcount being an openly talked about, site seen as a helpful tool rather than a cloak-and-dagger privacy breach.
I have zero issue with that.
I had no idea about how, people had my purchase history until watchcount was named here. If I didn't know there was even such a site, I wouldn't know how I could opt-out.
That's an issue, too.

You are kidding yourself. There will be other codes you can bet on it. Always the very vocal minority who ruin things for the others. No different here.
Hope you are happy
the vocal minority? Ruin things? What about the privacy of the majority? Don't they get a look in?
I actually didn't really use watchcount much, but I saw a need to let members here on the boards know how to opt-out of having their purchase history searchable. Now that it has been retired I am happy, now when I upload a screengrab I don't have to remember put it into my private album because I have kept only one image public since November last year . . . . . the one that gave the instructions for opting-out.
