What Might this Message Mean??

A buyer has placed a fully paid order ($6.99).

In the sales record we see a message (below).

We only offer standard mail delivery in our listing at $2.00. Express is an option.

Not sure if we should take this as meaning that the buyer is requesting SOD or what?

Any ideas here?

"Signature to be taken of the receiver on delivery"

They did answer eventually and said they were not willing to pay the extra for SOD and to just send by regular mail as per the listing.

So far we have heard no more so I beileve they might have not been fully cognisant of what was happening.

Re: What Might this Message Mean??

It sounds as if they want SOD. Seems a bit excessive for $6.95.

Just wondering if we don't send SOD if they might be setting us up for an INR claim down track.

Re: What Might this Message Mean??

I'd email the buyer and tell them that if they want SOD they will have to accept a cancellation and you will send them another invoice with the additional cost of parcel post plus SOD, as it's not available on small or large letters. Either that, or wear the possible INR which appears imminent.

To be honest, I doubt it, as most people wishing to do INR from the get-go won't want a service that can prove delivery.

If it helps any, I recently received an order and in the message to seller, the buyer had written "No signature on delivery!" or words to that effect, and my knee-jerk reaction was to think that maybe they had something planned and I should register it, but then I figured that maybe they're just trying to make sure they actually receive it without having to get to a post office and sign etc, and the item wasn't exactly of high value, so I sent it unregistered (that's what they paid for, anyway). That was several weeks ago now, so I feel fairly sure it was all good.

But, your buyer can't expect a $3.50 service to be complimentary, so I would do as CQ says and message them to explain this service costs extra, and you would be happy to arrange it after reinvoicing etc (presuming you are happy to do so).

I actually have registered as an option on all my lower-value listings (higher value I include it in the shipping price), and while it's fairly rare for someone to select it, I'm often surprised that people will choose registered for low value items (I had one last week where the item was only around $4.00, but they still chose registered), and I reckon it can't hurt to have an extra option (presuming that there isn't a specific reason it's not offered, anyway ๐Ÿ˜„ ).

Re: What Might this Message Mean??

We sent a question yesterday asking what they meant by the message and just making it clear that SOD does cost extra. That the $2 on the listing includes standard large letter postage only without tracking or SOD.

And, not surprisingly, we have not heard anything back.

So we are going to mail out what they actually paid for today, and see what happens.

Maybe I'm just becoming cynical with age Clarry, but I'm not sure I'd have sent their item in the absence of a response to your query. At least you have a copy of the message you sent them should they decide to show their displeasure by way of bad feedback, so that eBay may remove it if they do.
