Ebay final value fees WERE about 5%, but I just sold items in March and got charged 9.9%, double what I expected!!
Can someone tell me when they went up please?
[Also is anyone else horrified at the announcement that ebay is going to charge 9.9% on both the final value AND delivery costs?, adding to them charging this way on paypal to? It seems extremely unfair to charge sellers a commission [twice] on the delivery costs].
It's becoming too expensive to sell on ebay unless you are a big business, seems they are trying to get rid of small time odds and ends, home goods, sellers.

May last year. Maybe earlier. Although I'm not sure why you didn't expect the fees. They are explicitly mentioned before you commit to sell.
As for the rest, look in eBay News & Information
It doesn't hurt to visit the boards occasionally, or at least have a look at eBay announcements....

Thanks for your reply.
I only sell occasionally, [clearing my house]. I sold items just prior to Christmas and the ebay fee then was between 4-5 % [then there was the paypal fee as well].
I assumed the fees were the same so did not re-check, that is why I don't know WHEN the fees went up, and have asked.
9.9% is a huge jump from the previous fee [more than double!].

The fees are NOT explicitly mentioned!
In fact they are not on the listing page at all.
In fact if you do an ebay search for the fees you get a page of lots of print ABOUT fees, but NOT the actual fees.
...I DID look, but I was annoyed at having to do multiple searches, so I assumed they would still be the same, especially as cummulative sting paypal fees that charge for post also, I thought was unfair already, but stomach it because I wanted to use the service. I didn't expect the sting of 9.9% ebay final value fee from 4.*%.

You must mean your last selling stint was prior to Christmas 2012 as the fees went up on 1st May 2013...nearly 12 months ago.

It was a big jump, but there were also listing fees and now we have more free listings. Even store holders have free listings.
For most of my items I haven't found it difficult to factor in especially considering the coverage and success I have had with this site.

umm, if you use the sell your item form, yes they are. Before you commit to list you are told what the fees will be if you sell. Quite prominently.
Probably a bit like the Paypal 45 day limit. Even though it's there in black and white people choose to ignore it. Then express horror when it comes true.

Red face,... you are all correct!
I looked back at my dec 2013 sales, they were of low value eg amounts like $9, so I didn't notice the 90c charge.
My recent sales were large, for furniture, so I the huge ebay charge really leapt out at me!
Thanks for telling me when fees went up.
kind regards and thanks to all for spending the time to respond.
