Which address do I post a customer's order to?

I always thought that if a customer paid by PayPal, I was supposed to post to the address recommended to me by PayPal - i.e. meaning that the correct address had to be listed with PayPal.

I thought that if I didn't post to the address that PayPal told me to post to that I voided any opportunity to avail myself of Seller Protection.

I am pretty sure though that I read somewhere on the boards here that this isn't correct, that I am supposed to post to the address provided in eBay.

BUt I just found this information when I was lookking for something else......

How do I confirm my postage address?

"The seller may ask you to use a "confirmed" postage address. This means that any items that you pay for with PayPal must be sent to a credit card billing address that you have on file for PayPal. If you've already done this, you just need to make sure that this address is linked to your eBay address book. Then, select this as your postage address when you make your purchase using the Pay Now button."

So doesn't this mean hat if the addresses are different in PayPal and eBay that I am supposed to use the PayPal one?

What happens though when I use Click and Send? Isn't postage information for that uploaded directly from eBay?

That is exactly how buyers have parcels sent to the wrong address!

In checkout the address defaults to their primary shipping address. And many buyers don't change their address.

This is from the checkout screen

ok, so that means the eBay address is incorrect, right?

what happens though if they have updated their PayPal address and therefore that PayPal address is the one you get advised to ship to?
 (because they paid by Paypal)

What happens to my seller protection if I send it to the eBay address? (remembering that this is what would get uploaded to click and send?)

I'm sorry, I know I'm asking the same tuff, but the penny just isn't dropping....

If you run out of time or patience to help me I can wait for Digi to come online  -  she explains it in little words and types slowly for me LOL,

There is just some guy in another thread asking about postage to pakistan, and i remembered this scenario and wanted to make sure i told him the right stuff before answering iykwim - plus now, since finding that link, I think I was right to begin with, so i wanna know LOL)

Re: Which address do I post a customer's order to?

The pic above shows the checkout screen.

The buyer can either accept the default address or select a new shipping address.

The buyer then selects how to pay.

If the buyer opts to pay by PayPal they are asked to sign in to PayPal.

Once checkout is complete all shipping details are EXACTLY THE SAME in the PayPal transaction, the PayPal email notification, eBay View Order details and in C&S.

Re: Which address do I post a customer's order to?

Buyers can have several addresses stored in eBay. I have 6 addresses including 2 overseas and I can select from any of them to use as the shipping address.

The 'PayPal' address that sellers are advised to ship to is the shipping address that the buyer has selected in checkout.

Re: Which address do I post a customer's order to?

I always ship to the address in paypal. If they don't pay by paypal then the ebay checkout address is used. I have only ever had one parcel returned for wrong address.

Re: Which address do I post a customer's order to?

I had one buyer with one address on eBay, a different address on Paypal (well, at first glance) & a note on the bottom of her Paypal payment to send to another different address.

Her excuse was that she was having problems changing her address.  As the note was on the bottom of the Paypal email, I had to change the details of the address on C&S & I sent the package to that address with no problems it getting there.

I have had others, one was a NSW registered address, but she wanted the package sent to Queensland where she was staying for 6 months.

I really don't understand why people can't change their addresses, even temporarily.  Some people don't answer when U ask which address to which to send their item.

With bank deposit, U have to trust the buyer has their address correct, as I know of one lady who paid by bank deposit to another seller & paid by Paypal to me - the last I heard the buyer hadn't received her item with the eBay address (I used the Paypal address).

I'll do my best... Smiley Very Happy

When someone goes through the checkout, before they even select a payment method, their primary shipping address that is on file with eBay is automatically loaded as the ship to address. They can change it at that point, or there's one more opportunity to change it after they select their payment method and confirm the payment.

Once the checkout procedure is finalised, no matter which payment method is selected, the address that was confirmed during checkout becomes the address displayed on the seller's order details (the order details do not become available unless a buyer has completed checkout).

The address on the order details are  - the address confirmed during checkout, the address on the PayPal payment notification, and the address that's loaded into Click & Send. 😉

That is, the address the buyer confirms during checkout is the eBay address, it might not be the one they have registered as a primary delivery address, or where they live etc, but for all intents and purposes, it's the address on file with eBay that that shipment is meant to go to.

Maybe you should have asked your question earlier.

This thread is three years old and has obviously been available for all of that time.
