Okay so I have now used up all of my 30 free listings per month and am now getting slugged $3.00 insertion fee for BIN items of over $99. ( Mind you, as soon as I noticed I was getting slugged I soon put a stop to relisting ).
Now, what I can`t understand is, WHERE DOES ALL THE MONEY GO? eBay must be making trillions.
What a rort.

Some of the money is spent on this site so people like yourself can use it.
Maybe you aren't used to being charged fees. I haven't paid for listing fees for months so I'll notice the difference whenever I need to pay for them again.

Because eBay want to keep their profits up even though their market share of e-commerce is falling.
That's not to say there are better alternatives for sellers (although I am sure there is for some), but that there are now many alternatives for buyers.
The one thing a site like eBay has going for it is that you don't need any particular qualifications to sell (some sites are specialised, others require applications and are subject to approval), and almost all of the legwork, in terms of attracting general traffic to the site itself, is done for you. For some sellers, that's worth paying for, even if it invokes a few grumbles along the way.

its not the insertion fee that erks me...its the FVF that has now stopped me listing here... i will only use ebay for buying from now on.
I've finally had enough! *sigh* ... and i dont even list all that often.... what a pity!

Why not be grateful that you got 30 listings for free? It is not many places that you can advertise and get such a wide exposure and pay nothing. actually most places you will end up paying much more than on eBay. bet even your local paper, with circulation of few thousands, will charge you more than $3 for only couple of lines ad, and no photos. ๐
And yes, eBay is a business, and their aim is to make money, and it takes money to maintain it. Do you think that such a huge website is running all by itself?

You can accuse Microsoft, Coca Cola, McDonalds and other major companies of the same thing but they won't lower the cost of their products for you.
Why don't you phone ebay and tell them what you think of them ?

Don't forget the cost of maintaining the tree, for sellers to list free on. Or do you think if they don't charge, it doesn't cost?
Hang on, isn't that a classified site? Pickup only? Limiting your market there.

Um ebay are a business and when in business the idea is to make money after costs have been paid.
Gee it would be silly for sellers to be loosing money by the time they paid their fees and costs as well as there would be no point in paying ebay to allow you to list on their site.
Thing how much you have saved now by using up those 30 free listings ๐
