Someone clearly wanted it and knew it's value. The first bid was for $1,000,000!!! Incredible! I just hope the winning bidder can pay. Although it looks like they had to jump through hoops before they could bid. Probably to weed out any tyre kickers.

One has to wonder how it survived in such amazing condition for so long. What would make someone think at the time "I'll put that away and not touch it because it might be worth something in the future"? I look at new stuff these days and I'd be very surprised if many things are worth anything in years to come. Most things are just cheap rubbish. I did say most, not all 😄

Paypal wasn't even a payment option.  Only Visa/Mastercard!

Nicholas Cage had a copy stolen.  When he got it back

11 years later, he sold it on ebay for $US2.1M

One of the links on the sales page lead to an interview with the comic dealer. He said the original buyer way back in the 1930's purchased the comic and put it away in a wood trunk (for whatever reason). He lived up in them thar mountains,it was a combination of altitude and ideal storage conditions that lead to this one being in such perfect condition after all these years.

Most comic books got passed around from child to child and were tatty. A lot would have gone in the recycle era of the war years.

l'd love to know who found this copy in the trunk many years later. Family or estate dealer.

Edited to add: This copy was pick up only. No delivery, no paypal payments.

They offered a safe secure site for the hand over......

My daughter is into comics.. and has a large collection. Will tell her to keep them in mint condition. And maybe she could pay for my retirement in 20 years time!
