Wow - Free listings and a full Postage Credit - Thanks eBay

Just received this email from eBay....

Dear designers*n*more,

We’re sorry! During the period 9th March to 20th March, the usually reliable postage label printing service experienced some technical issues, and we believe this impacted you.

Firstly, we want to apologise for any inconvenience this issue has caused you and/or your business. We know how valuable your time is.

Secondly, we want you to know that we’re working hard to prevent disruptions like this happening again.

Thirdly, we’re looking after you. We’ll be issuing a credit to your account which reimburses you for the full amount of labels purchased during the disruption, plus a little bit extra to cover the cost of the next label you purchase on the eBay platform. Your credit will be applied to your account by 17 April and reflected on your next invoice.

Additionally, any transaction defects we can identify as resulting from this issue will be removed and have no impact on your selling performance record.

Thank you for using eBay and our postage label printing service. We sincerely hope you continue to use both.

Regards

The eBay AU Team

Re: Wow - Free listings and a full Postage Credit - Thanks eBay

Having received the same email and not seeing any reference to it in the latest invoices, I decided to mmm... chase it up...

eBay's response: About the email that you received concerning postage labels for March, what will be credited is just the postage label that was invalid. Also, the credit will also apply to postage label fees only.

Yet the original email reads:  "... issuing a credit to your account which reimburses you for the full amount of labels purchased during the disruption..."

It's simple enough English.  Why promise something they're not going to honour?

I'll have a wild guess at that:

Because they can?

I only received about $24 instead of the $85 I was expecting. Sent them emails and they are going to process the balance of what they should have paid. Told to wait 48/72hrs, that was a week ago! So not holding out much hope!

Nose, did you receive a credit for the fvf on shipping as well?

Re: Wow - Free listings and a full Postage Credit - Thanks eBay

The April invoice shows an eBay Incidental Reimbursement Credit of $17 (no specific explanation offered) which is a fraction of what I'd expected.  As it doesn't cover the shipping fees, I'm guessing it's just the fvf.

I thought I was making it easy for them by emailing an itimised list of items affected during the period stated - 9-20 March, but I guess my interpretation of "eBay speak" is somewhat lacking. I read their email several times: skimmed it, read it out loud, sounded out each word, tilted the page, closed one eye...  I even repeated "full amount" several times and strangely, it didn't lose its meaning.

As for the something extra...  that's definitely open to interpretation and wishful thinking.
