I can see a fairly new seller selling a book which he obviously hasn't got, because he has copied my photos including the watermarks!

What should be done about copied photos?   I used the report form but of course ebay has done nothing.

Should I just forget it?  In that case what is the point of using watermarks to protect photos?

Should I write to the seller myself?  leaving myself open to possible abuse, or an angry response (I am pretty wimpy)

or worse malicious buying Smiley Frustrated

How annoying is that!!! And why on earth would they copy a pic that has your watermark on it? Daft if you ask me. Telephone ebay have their ID ready and the item number so they can quickly look it up.

As far as I know it is a breach of copyright and ebay should remove that listing.

Do you use your business name as your watermark? That might be a good way to deter this person from steeling your pictures.

Check under your site preferences for the "Share your Content" preference - I am pretty sure you have to opt out otherwise eBay has the right to use and make available to other sellers any content (and images) you upload for your listings.

This (your) content then goes into the eBay library and any other seller can then use it.

Consider photos I upload in the listing process for inclusion in the eBay product catalogue and other product offerings.

If you are not sharing your photos you can report them via the listing.

Select Copyright and Trademark from the first box > Images or Text copied from your listing in the second box >

Copied pictures or text from the third.

Enter the listing that it's been copied from and Send Report.

Just a quick thank you for the "Share your Content" preferences advice. I did not know that was there. Luckily mine is set to no.

He must have  abook like yours, but I agree, sellers should have a photo of the actual item THEY are selling, not pinch one off someone else.

I think this must be common. I saw something on ebay that shocked me the other day. It was a photo of a wedding dress. The photo is from a designer's site. I know this for a fact as my daughter was looking at the dress so i am familiar with the photos.

Imagine my surprise to see the exact same photo on ebay, listed by a seller in China as new, for 99 cents.

Something fake is going on there. I didn't think you were allowed to pinch photos from manufacturers or businesses either.

And oh boy, I wish the dresses really were 99 cents.Smiley Wink

Just to clarify, sharing your content (images) means eBay can select them to use for items in the product catalogue, not that other members can use non-selected images freely in their own listings without permission.

When a member's image is selected for use in the product catalogue, it becomes a stock image, and anyone else selling that item can use it, but it is also properly attributed, with a note on the listing stating the member ID (hyperlinked) of the person who supplied it.

Just to make it clear, I did report it to ebay - see my original post, but nothing has been done.

And I also opted out of the share images thing  a long time ago so that was ineffective too.

actually got a call from ebay support   Cat Surprised  and they report they have removed the offending listing, hooray!

Guess it just takes time.

I was surprised that they also mentioned that they noticed my whinge here on the community boards - big brother is definitely watching!
