eBay Should Come into Line With the Rest of the On-Line Ecommerce World

Hi All,

I'm sure many of you out there would agree, that if you are a Seller, you should be able to get your payment immediately, in just the same way as if you were selling on an ecommerce website.

What is it with this out dated system of allowing buyers to have days and days to pay, and in the end, they DON'T pay, wasting our precious time, having to send reminder emails to pay, then lodging non payment claims, then having to relist an item.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that Sellers are made to wait for their payments.  Buyers should be made to pay immediately, just like any other ecommerce website out there.  Apart from eBay, I do not know of any other commercial website that waits days and days for their payment from buyers.

I'm so sick of non-payers and time wasters.  It shouldn't be this hard.  eBay are certainly set up to recover their costs as you cannot have a seller account without a credit card on file!  Why can't this be the case for Sellers?

If the concern is about non-genuine sellers, then eBay should make it MUCH HARDER to have an account or put Sellers through a more rigorous security check.

Does anyone else out there agree with me???  How could we go about getting this changed???

Why can't Seller protection match buyer protection???  Come on eBay....get with the times.

So, so frustrating.....Cat Mad

Why don't you just set up your listings as immediate payment required?

I have done that ..... I think a lot of potential buyers don't like the option of having to pay straight away because they know they don't have to.

I probably will move back to immediate payment.

I just don't think there should be a choice!

That's why there are choices so you can then choose the one that best suits you.If you want immediate payment then the buy it now is the option you take.Alot of sellers list auctions as they are happy to give buyers a little time pay.But I do agree with you if a buyer purchases an item from you then I think the payment should be made instantly from the buyers account and if a buyer doesn't have the funds immediately then the buyer should not buy.

Totally agree, I have soooo many non-payers and it is EXTREMELY frustrating, it does seem to be the bane of selling on ebay, and judging by the amount of community members that complain about this issue is proof of the problem, as to immediate payment it does not allow for combined postage, which can put people off. Lets hope ebay will one day address this issue. Smiley Frustrated

They have taken some steps to addressing it 🙂

Most buyers (I don't know if all) now have a cart in which they can place items. If a seller - even one who has immediate payment required on their listings - has created automatic postage discounts, they will be calculated in the cart so that a buyer can purchase/pay and still receive combined postage discounts. It doesn't help with auctions, or if sellers can't used combined postage discounts / rate tables for their items, but for anyone who primarily uses the BIN format with postage rules, plus is ok with only offering PayPal, immediate payment required is much more viable than it used to be.

Re: eBay Should Come into Line With the Rest of the On-Line Ecommerce World

there was talk in recent times that eBay would change the rules for Buy-It-Now listings so that even if a 'buyer' hit the "commit to buy" button the listing would remain 'live' until they paid.  This would enable another buyer to come in and commit to buy and pay which would mean the first 'buyer' would miss out as someone else paid before them.

This would help sellers immensely as they would not have to start the UnPaid item process for the first 'buyer' if that 'buyer' hadn't paid after 4 days and then wait a further four days before re-listing as the listing remains live until it is paid for.

I get non payers through my website as well - probably about the same percentage as on ebay.

Hi digital, I think the system may still need some tweaking, as I buy with another ID and I had a whole heap of different size padded bags in my cart and it would not let me send a request postage total it just added them up to over $55, it then kept sending to paypal to pay, so I had to go in and “BUY them all again and request total from seller and postage was $12 ?????
