eBay has now written their own scamming policy…

After 17 year of being a loyal customer, with 100% Positive feedback with 226+ people since the year 2006, they tweak a few things, change some policy and now are taking MY MONEY that someone gave to me after I had given them (handed over) one of my personal items (that was for sale), buyer is happy and got their item, but eBay has scammed MY MONEY to use for their own purposes, until they see fit in ‘their eyes’ that I can have MY MONEY - Apparently just taking out their ‘very healthy’ fees aren’t good enough anymore.

After many years of loyalty of using eBay and working hard to get a 100% Positive feedback with 226+ people since the year 2006 - being a relatively a low level user, but alway packed things well and sent them quickly, I was so sad to lose all my good (excellent) feedback. I had temporarily went to the UK, where they transferred my account - with my good rating (eBay advised this), but now I'm back in Australia they can not (will not) reinstate my account back to Australia (due to a policy/payment system change).

eBay advised me to start a new account in Australia (17 years to go, to get my feedback back where it was before), just pathetic behaviour by eBay (belligerent), with eBays all new increased fees you'd think they would treat their loyal customers better.

Insult to injury, they now hold your money back from you, it now take 2-3 weeks to receive my money, and can not tell me when this will stop.

NO WONDER people are going to Facebook Market place.

What actually is this 'scamming policy' you post about?

Are you referring to Managed Payments

Or the policy that has been in place for years when it comes to holds on funds?

You will want to end your current listings as the hold on funds will also apply to those items if they sell

You listed, ticking you had read and agreed to etc etc etc

Not sure why you only have to wait 2-3 weeks, when other new sellers (and all sellers who have not sold in some time have to wait 30 days)

Assuming you have fully completed sign up to Managed Payments (which came in 3 years ago, so not new, and no, there is no interest made by eBay on funds on hold) and it was announced it was coming two years before that

If you have not done all you were required to do and completed Managed Payments sign the you don't get it at all

Nothing new

No new policy

No scam (in this instance)

Same rules for everyone

Everything available to you, when you listed your item but you apparently overlooked and ticked you had read and understood when you had not

And no, nobody here works for eBay, and eBay do not read anyone's posts here

There are still millions and millions of sellers on the platform, and most of them had stayed up to date with Ebay's policies.

The Managed Payments system has been in place for almost 3 years.

Loyalty, time and feedback are irrelevant - you need to sign up for the new programme with verified ID and a bank account. All the major platforms have this protocol and in fact, Ebay was probably the last one to introduce it. If you sell on Amazon or Etsy it is a requirement before you can even open an account.

As for when it will "stop" - it really depends on how often you sell. For new and infrequent sellers, money is held for around 30 days. Sending on time with tracking helps, but funds can definitely be held for this long. If you become a frequent seller, this requirement will fall away after a few months and then you'll get your money according whatever schedule you set up in your Seller Hub.

Ebay's fees have not increased - it has been approx 13.4% (depending on category) for more than 10 years. Before it was split between Ebay and Paypal. Now the fees are taken out upfront by Adyen and you get the balance to your bank account.

Good luck with Facebook, there's more no-shows and scammers there than there ever has been on eBay - and with a vastly smaller buyer pool to sell to.

You understand absolutely nothing of the new payment system.

All you have done apart from rant, is display your total ignorance.

No, not 'Managed payments', you don't understand, I'm talking about a basic pick up transaction, it use to be I put something up for sale, someone pays me for the item, eBay takes their fees, I get my money, and I send off my item or someone comes and picks it up - never a problem for the last 17 years. What has happen is in these instances is the buyer has bought my item in good faith, and has picked the item up (very happy with it), left good feedback, so the buyer now has my pre-owned item, but I have no money , eBay says they've changed policy, and I won't see my money for 2-3 weeks (and they're effectively using my money for their own purposes), at the end of the day it's my money not theirs.

Ps...I'm not a business, this is selling my personal items.

After many years of loyalty of using eBay and working hard to get a 100% Positive feedback with 226+ people since the year 2006 - always going to that extra effort for buyer with communication for either pick or sending (alway packed very well). Not one bad transaction for 17 years, so that counts for nothing...like I've said before

@dabr6376,

I'm afraid that it is you who does not understand.

It IS all about Managed Payments.

Managed Payments involves the following:

  • All sellers must provide proof of ID for ID verification.
  • All sellers must go through a process of bank account verification (which may involve microdeposits).
  • All sellers will set how frequently they want their funds to be disbursed to their bank account.
  • eBay sales are processed by eBay's own internal payment processing system (in partnership with Adyen), and the payouts will have all fees automatically deducted from the moneys paid to the seller.
  • All sellers who are "new sellers" (as judged by eBay) will have a 21-day hold on their funds (or possibly longer).
  • Sellers who haven't had both their ID and their bank account verified will be waiting until eternity to have their funds disbursed.
  • Once a seller is selling regularly and is no longer considered "new", the "new seller" hold will no longer apply.
  • If a seller ceases to sell sufficiently/regularly enough, eBay will once again consider the seller "new" and the hold will re-apply.
  • It is irrelevant how long one has been an eBay member or has sold items in the past; the metric by which eBay will judge a seller to be "new" remains the same - i.e., hasn't sold regularly recently.
  • It is irrelevant how shiny and sparkling one's 100% positive feedback is.
  • Even if one sells pickup items, the hold on funds for a new seller applies - unless the buyer pays cash on pickup (which is perfectly legitimate).
  • The payment for postage does not come out of the held funds if the seller sends the item with eBay's postage labels. (This seems to come as a surprise to a few new-ish sellers.) Postage must be paid for by the seller at the time of sending, with the buyer's payment (including postage component) coming to the seller only once the funds are released to the seller.

When someone picks up an item already paid for ebay either gives them a code you can enter into ebay to verify they collected it. Or if you both have the ebay app they have a barcode you can scan.

Doing either one may release the funds sooner as it shows the buyer now has it.

I do find messaging the buyer beforehand to bring the code or have the app helps most times.
