Hi,

I recently sold a digital item on ebay (a code that can only be used once) yet today I recieved an email from ebay that ebay had to cancel the purchase even though I have already given the item to the bidder. Can anyone help me here?

I suspect that policy only exists so companies like EB Games can sell those types of items on ebay as an "Authorised Reseller". If I bought one of those products and then tried to re-sell it unopened, I would risk having the listing cancelled because I'm not authorised.

I expect if that were the case, it would be stated in the policy in some way - I believe they have limitations like that on things like gift cards.

Just re-checking the thread title, the OP said the purchase was canceled by eBay, not that the listing was removed, and it appears they experienced the same thing I did, where the buyer - or account holder, rather - claims somone else used their ebay account to make a purchase.

When it happened to me, I went straight to PayPal to check the payment, but it was untouched and nothing further ever happened.

Re: eBay listings removed - unauthorized user of buyer or bidder account

I actually recently listed and sold 2 Xbox One digital game tokens / download codes. They came for free with a new console my partner bought so I took them to sell, heheh.

After some ebay research, it seemed one was quite in demand. Forza Horizon 4 or something. Others had sold for around $80-$100 so I listed it for a fixed price of $85. It had sold by the end of that same night.

The buyer purchased, paid via paypal as normal and so I sent them an ebay message providing the download code. No response. No thank you. No feedback. Ok then. (shrug)

The following afternoon I received an email from Ebay saying the transaction had been cancelled due to the buyer not being in control of their account.

I immediately went onto the live chat thing and explained the situation. It took a while before the person fully grasped my issue (Them "You can just re-list the item, it's ok". Me "No, I can't re-list it as the buyer already has it as it was a digital download. They have seen it and it can only be used once.")

So basically the buyer had their item but just didn't want to pay for it, but couldn't use the normal reasons for physical item sales like the item is damaged or never arrived, so said someone else had hacked into their account.

I told the ebay guy this and they thankfully assured me that since the buyer had already paid, no action would be taken. Obviously I did not have to refund the buyer.

Ugh.

I sold the other game code (a much cheaper one for $25) to a NORMAL person who purchased, paid, messaged me, I messaged him the code, he thanked me and then left positive feedback.

Why can't they all be like that!?

Sorry, I meant to respond directly to this post as we had the same issue with the buyer claiming no responsibility for their account.
