ebay australia is a forgotten dying platform

Its my understanding that ebay australia is now a dying platform and no longer has any growth potential.

This is relevant by the poor customer support, and lack of dedicated customer support.

They have a call back system instead of a dedicated call centre, as its allows them to provide extremely low quality service at an extremely cheap price.

There are no longer physical buildings or further development, with everything going into the online nothingness.

Just a warning to get out while you can

Ebay, still  No 1  in Australian ecommerce,  with approx 68M visitors per month

more than double the number of visitors of the nearest rival.

Somehow I think Ebay is going to remain   No1   for many years to come

Maybe .......... The risk is the platforms active users globally are falling quite dramatically at a time when global online shopping is increasing. That cant continue for much longer before a downward spiral into oblivion occurs.

If ebay can turn the ship around with the extensive media advertising program it is currently running etc. I suspect it will be a much thinner, leaner company than the one we see today. You should be OK with the new, relatively specialised items you sell, but my used collectibles and rare books may not be welcome on the site nor supported by buyers as they have in the past.

Its also worth noting that ebay is not making the bulk of its money from fees for the stuff that is sold on the site. This is just the content that supports advertising revenue and now fees from the managed payments system. The only growth ebay can currently achieve from actual sales is by taking higher percentages of fees from each transaction, through systems such as promoted listings ie. pay for visibility etc. making the site much more expensive to trade on.

After 15 years of strong support for eBay, It looks to me like the company is in serious decline and may not be a viable platform in future unless dramatic changes to direction are made very quickly. The current direction of Cheap new Chinese carp / mini me Big River and squeezing ever increasing fess from existing users is clearly not working.

Noted. There never where physical buildings, nor Australian call centres. Something called COVID caused the shutdown of the Manila call centre. You might have heard of COVID?

I will, however, persevere while my sales are steady.

Why would I want to get out when business is booming.   I don't give a rats where there  CS reps are located as long as they resolve issues as requested via live chat, which to date they have always managed to do relatively professionaly.   (They may need to be pointed in the right direction occassionally)

So basically your understanding or misunderstanding as the case may be is irrelevant.

You still have a whole 3 items listed. So you haven't gotten out. Integrity, or lack thereof.

I no longer sell on ebay and haven't (except for a few odds and ends on a different account) for a few years.

I judged the system was too complicated and risky for the sorts of things we normally used to sell, which was mainly second hand items and clothing.

Ebay has definitely changed direction but just coming onto a board hosted on the ebay site itself and giving a warning to get out isn't going to cut it.

A few of the regulars here do a good trade on ebay and while it is working for them, they will stay. Why would they leave?

Others whose business may have slowed but is still profitable will probably stay but perhaps branch out to other online sites  as well.

If ebay isn't working for a seller, they won't continue. It is as easy as that.

While there is any profit in it, they'll stay. No need for any warnings as each seller is different.

What ever floats your boat cham.   I reckon ebay will still be the number one platform in Australia long after I'm dead.   There is a hell of a lot more at play, than just user numbers  and so far ebay is continuing to perform above global expectations.

Just for 1,  approx 10% of members world wide, declined initial uptake of managed payments, because they listened to all the false negatives being spread, whereas the system is actually now operating faster than paypal payments ever did

See Ive noticed this as well.

The amount of backyard stores that dont operate at a profit, continue to clog up most of the ebay results. ebay has always been a 'digital local market' for me, but so many now use it to become a pretendie entrepreneur.

Had a purchase from a pretendie entrepreneur that went sour, and they convolute the return process/wont offer a refund. The ebay return system and customer support have done the same thing, and its unlikely Ill get my money back. Didnt realise that the ebay customer support goes direct to india, and the worst part with the worst people.

ebay is definitely getting worse, as corporate try to streamline and squeeze every cent they can out of the current system. All the dumb **bleep** trying to make ebay hip and cool for genZ is really dumb, return it to a reliable digital local market. Something needs to also be done about the pretendie entrepreneurs, ebay should increase fees for these clowns imho.

Please dont buy big ticket items on ebay, or at least setup your payment, so you can easily just dispute the transaction with your bank, and not have to deal with the ebay system.
