matey, are books going to be somethiung you intend to have as a regular line?

If so, i reckon we start working there for you to get that streamlined as to me, the 10 you have listed are bleeding you money.

I reckon you need to get some kind of streamlined and unifirm system set uop on how to process books - it looks desperately random to me atm, there are prices everywhere as if you just pulled them out of your head.

I send some products by Free post, some I dont.

Please consider the ramifications of free post, ok?

Some books can of course go free post, I think the point being made was, selling a book over 500g for $10 with free post would cost you more in postage and fees etc, than you made,

even to sell a book weighing 500g but thicker than 20mm will cost you minimum $7.15 to post (not counting current 10% postage promotion on calculated parcels 500g) so not much oprotfi\

the cards - IF you don't send with tracking, can probably go in a small envelope for 70c. add a bit for packaging etc, and your $1.20 charge is not all that much to build into "free" post

MY advice

look what your direct comp[etitiors are doing. If no one else is offering free post, why would you want to? (There are good reaSONS TO, BUT ALSO REASONS NOT TO, SO NOT DISSING YOUR CHOICE - JUST whoops sorry bout the caps - just hoping I am helping you to think about reasons why

70c is standard postage. Am pretty sure it is also limited to items no more than 5mm thick. Be careful of this. You may have to experiment with types of packaging/cardboard or rigid plastic toploaders here. If the packaging used makes it more than 5mm it may push you into the large letter category and double the price. Perhaps look into the cost of prepaid envelopes, I would think even a pack of 10 would give you a discount. Compare cost to use own/other packaging and adding stamps on too. Some prepaid envelopes might work well for books too!!

Ok, so would you like to start there?

There are other very qualified book sellers on the boards, but I can at least get you started.

1) do you have some scales so you can weigh the books?

2) how are you going to send them? By flat rate postage? boxes? satchels? envelopes? Is tracking something you are adamant about? (There are no right or wrong answers, just things to know so we can help you work out the best model we can for you) how do you fee about combined postage?

Apologies if I am repeating something someone else has said but if you have items/books/cards

under 500grams that would be less than 2cm thick when packed, prepaid envelopes could be a

really useful option for you (these are prepaid paper envelopes which are different to the prepaid

or flatrate plastic satchels people have been mentioning). To give an idea of prices of prepaid envelopes:

Medium C5 up to 500g (162 x 229 x 20mm) = $1.70 singly (cheaper as a pack of 10 or more)

Large C4 up to 500g (324 x 229 x 20mm) = $3.20 singly ("             ")

Large B4 up to 500g (353 x 250 x 20mm) = $3.80 singly (cheaper as a pack of 10 or more)

These don't include tracking but might be an option for you to consider.

Ok, I haven't used tough bags, so I can't help there, I am afraid.

For books I used satchels or boxes, and for thin books that can go as a large letter I used 16mm cardboard mailers

So as the satchels and boxes fit into flat rate, may I now ask if you are comfortable using eBay postage (the cheapest) or would you prefer Click and Send, or Aus Post General? IMO, you get the best seller protection, well the easiest to acheive and prove should you get a paypal claim by using either eBay Post or Click and Send.

For books in satchels, I used to wrap them in bubblewrap before putting in the satchel, or anything sent in envelope or paper or cardboard would get wrapped in plastic wrap.

so you need to make some choices here as to how to package as well, so we can help you to work out best postyage methods and costs

I know this sounds counter productive, but a thought could be, since you are planning to sell books for a while, to order a few books from othewr online sellers and see what they do. see how they package etc if you are a kind of hands on person who needs to see rather than be "told"

To protect from rain, snails, soggy ground (should mail fall on ground) I like to pack paper items in plastic also, not just cardboard. I used to use cling film and still do occasionally but these days tend to just use freezer bags (can be quite cheap), zip lock type bags OR numerous clear resealable cello bags from Packitin on ebay
