Is it true that to sign up for managed payments, eBay demands heaps of personal information, and also we have to once again prove who we are and upload bank account details etc, etc. All of this personal informtion is then sent to a third party which eBay is then not responsible for. I would like to hear from those who have already signed up, as to whether this is true or not.
Solved! Go to Solution.

You obviously haven't tried to open a new bank account with a new bank lately, come out of the 19th century, not sure if you have noticed, nothing is not on the internet now, now sure how you have gotten this far without noticing that.

The only solution is to put my passport in. Who in their right mind would upload bank details, drivers licence, passport etc to a site that could get hacked. Closed my shop. Bye Bye ebay - if you dont trust me after so long.

Totall agree. I refuse to give extra details. PayPal bye bye then for me.
BTW: I know of cases where PayPal accounts have been frozen due to people not providing extra details (License etc.) but it only happened when there was a certain amount of money in there. I wonder who gets to keep the money ? There were other issues that I won't go into here. Hmmmm
Yeah I'll probably get attacked by one or two of the resident bullies here for saying this but what the heck.

Youre right, its not as bad as it sounds, its worse. I need a passport, a drivers licence, my birth date, my full name, my address, my phone number. It used to be acceptable to provide an account statement for a utility payment, it was good enough for Commonwealth ID requirements and banks, so what has changed?
I will state, that the Internet in its origins of design, was intended to be an open architecture network to allow free flow of data, it was not designed to control data , its inherent design is its greatest flaw, it was never designed to be used as it currently is being used, there are consequences for using the internet as secure data control network.

Good points pete_primate and well said! Yes and the consequences not realized now will be realized later for sure!

But 4channel, you're not a seller (unless something's changed very recently) and as a buyer you can still use Paypal.

I always have a good laugh at people who say others are bullies, because they provide different opinions or the facts. But you are always right so I guess thats why you can call others bullies

Reply: Well that makes two of us then. I'm glad that you can differentiate between bullying and different facts and opinions. I do! There are many times I don't agree with others but I respect their opinions. But plain out raw bullying I don't go for nor accept. Unfortunately there's some of that going on as well.
And as for pete_primate's post. Great points and valid concerns. In the name of progress we're moving forward. But when taking a reality view as primate_peter and others here before him have, the moving forward is actually being pushed. There will be consequences. And primate_pete's words are a representation of someone who is in the 20th century of values and 21st century thinker in reality mode.

No need to upload image - just make sure you enter the correct number from the ID
For those who do not wish to trust the new system, that is also absolutely fine and understandable but very soon you will no longer be able to sell as 90% of sellers have been transitioned worldwide and they invisage all sellers will be transition (or decide to leave by not joining MP) by early 2022.
So keep an eye on your listings, because once MP is placed on your account any sales you make will not be able to be paid to you without your bank details.
Good luck to whomever and whatever you decide to do.
Oh - and to 4C - this is how to offer adive and help, rather than just commiserations an assumptions of something you have no experience of.

Thanks for your tippy. At least I didn't have to stand on my toes to get it.

What a shock.

A password of a bank account or just plain drivers license details (even without photo) is something I'll never share to a selling platform. Only my bank account manager or authorized bank representative gets to know that info. A nice policeman doing his job is allowed to see that as well.
People like pete_primate etc., ekoeco , shopping bag etc. are not blind sheep. I understand their concerns and agree with them, sure do!
