Re: offensive

I think the child would also like a golliwog, but her parents could misinterpret the gift and be offended, so I agree that it is better if the doll does not resemble a golliwog.

My 3 year old great grandaughter has a best friend at pre school who literally looks like the proverbial "Gollywog"  I am told that my friend is just a darker person than she is.  I am in the process of making a black doll for her for Xmas.  Am I doing wrong?

Please, no child actually looks like a golliwog, unless you are saying they have strangely googly eyes and big, blood-red lips.

What do I care if you make a doll?  If you're giving it to someone else, just don't make one that looks like it's making fun of the child you're giving it to - that stuff can hurt how children feel about themselves for a long time, because half the time they won't even be aware of how it affected their self-image until they are old enough for that kind of introspection.

Re: offensive

I just don't know why the OP found the machine so offensive

because used as intended it is incredibly useful.

I use mine for stuffing chickens.

Re: offensive

Anyway, speaking of gollies, just before the second wave of the pandemic I had seen one for $5 in a basket of toys in an Anglicare OP shop. The week after they had put it on display in a cabinet for $20 - not sure why, but I guess they thought it was actually nice? They had other black dolls in that cabinet, including international black dolls.

Just a cursory safety warning on this product...... the wifi bandwidth that controls this product must be very close to the one that controls our smart washing machine. I set the WM to rinse and spin on my way home from work and txted the Mrs to get ready for a big surprise.... I got home to not only find the washing not finished but the Mrs lying prostrate in the bedroom, wet as a shag, smoking a cigarette with a sily looking grin on her face.... you have been warned..

Re: offensive

Apparently there is a market for gollies - my brother found some golly Christmas decorations, took one to a dance, went up to to a guy and said "Wanna buy a golly" showing him the tiny fellow hidden in his hand, and exchanged it for $20.

Of course there is a slight possibility the buyer thought he was buying another substance.
