I learnt something recently that I was not aware of so thought I would share it as it has cost me $110 which I really am not pleased about. I sold an item early december, after payment by paypal I signed into the "View Order Details" section of ebay to get address, posted item thinking I had done everything right. The seller opened a dispute with paypal 3 days after I posted item saying they had not received it yet, mind you, I am in country Victoria and they are in sydney, express post takes 2 days to get anywhere, I sent a copy of the postage receipt to buyer stating they should at least wait a week before disputing but still no reponse. I replied in the paypal dispute section, the response was I should have sent item to the work address listed with paypal not the home address listed with ebay as the buyer often has parcels go missing from the home address, would have been nice to know this. To cut this saga short, the dispute was escalated when the buyer didn't receive item (or so we were told), after talking to paypal, they agreed I did have proof of sending item but as it was to the ebay address and not the paypal address they had to find in favour of the buyer and reversed the payment back to the buyer!!!! I ask, I have proven postage, they know it, the buyer admits that parcels go missing from home address, why are they still using it as ebay registered address, why did they not tell me to make sure item was sent to work, or better still, pay the extra $3 for registered post. This has left a bad taste in my mouth, christmas day I received a notice from paypal to get my balance out of negative or I may hear from debt collectors, so my warning to you all, PLEASE SEND ITEMS TO PAYPAL REGISTERED ADDRESS NOT EBAY REGISTERED ADDRESS. Why aren't we told this more often, the little paypal protection icons are everywhere, share the rules more openly please. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else because it was a very unpleasant experience after building up nearly 1200 positive feedback responses which went nowhere to help my case. Sorry for the longwinded post but I am annoyed that I was punished when paypal said they could see I had posted the item, they could see it was the buyers home address, they couldn't prove the buyer was telling the truth, but I am sorry, we have to reverse the payment!!! I must say in closing, the paypal operators were very easy to contact and talk to, although perhaps velvet sledgehammer is an appropriate term. Happy New Year everyone and may your ebay experiences be better than this one.

I've always been a low volume seller however I've known for years that sellers need to post to the address that is given by Paypal. To members like licoricebaby I say ignorance is not bliss - it can cause trouble. It isn't amusing when you need to make a large refund and end up with nothing for it. Although the OP has pointed out the obvious to many people they have also informed some people.

I have read the thread in full and I can't understand why the buyer hasn't updated his delivery address to coincide with his ebay account.
He has a history of not getting packages, so why hasn't he updated his delivery information on both his paypal and ebay accounts?
Sounds like he's doing it intentionally knowing that he can reverse his payment via paypal.

Read it again.
The buyer HAS updated their address with Paypal (on checkout), which is the address the seller is supposed to use to send to. Thus, the only address that matters. If s/he was intent on scamming sellers, s/he would use their residential address.
I suspect their work address would not be an acceptable registered eBay address to their employer. After all, they don't live there.
My registered address is my PO Box, but I'm the only one with a key.

You just don't get the point, a buyer does not have to update their delivery address, a buyer can choose to have their purchase sent to anybody at any address. They update the delivery address when going through checkout.
How could a buyer who was perhaps buying three things around the same time who wanted them sent to 3 different addresses update their delivery address unless they did it in checkout for each individual item?
It is not unusual for me to do that, especially as I often buy for friends and family on two continents.
As for the buyer saying things often went astray from their home address that is why they did absolutely the right thing and changed their address at the correct time in the correct place and to accuse them of being dishonest is so wrong on so many levels.
I cannot understand why anyone would post something worth over $100 by express post anyway as it only covers compensation up to $50.
the whole mess could have been avoided by using click &b send which would have automatically have imported the address used in Paypal and for an extra dollar for signature required would have given the OP seller protection and AP cover too. It would have been a lot cheaper than express as well.

It still sounds a bit dodgy even having that address available.
Sounds like there are underlying issues.

It's quite simple as explained.
If I receive a payment by bank deposit I go to the transaction and post to the address given.
If they pay by Paypal I log into PP and view the transaction to make certain it has all cleared.
Then I copy the address given there and paste it into my Word document, enlarge and bold it and then print.
You can't make a mistake that way and I have full PP protection,:-D

The address is taped on and fully covered by clear tape.

How can it be dodgy?
The buyer has his home address registered on ebay, which is correct.
He has problems with deliveries going missing from his home address so has his mail sent to his work address. This is also correct.
When he went through checkout he used his work address for delivery...also correct.
The seller sent the parcel to his home address....NOT correct.
So please explain how the buyer is dodgy and what the underlying issues are, other than the buyer wanting the parcel sent to an address where he is more sure of receiving it.

Thank you babyjane for making me aware of this. I have over 5,000 feedbacks and many more transactionsthan I have received feedback for, but I did not know that I am only covered if I have posted to the Paypal address rather than the eBay address. I have always viewed the eBay address and sent it there and fortunately have not encountered a problem but I'll be logging into PayPal from here on to get the address off there. You are not on your own and I have to admit that I wasn't aware of that rule either.

Isn't it amazing how many apparently successful sellers can't or won't read the terms they agree to. Or the prominently spelt out warnings re same, almost every time they sell.
Good thing they don't operate B&Ms I suppose. They'd sign the lease then be surprised when they actually had to pay.
